Montgomery Pushed to Victory in AMRA Lates
Smith Smites OVSCA Sprints/ Berwanger Wallops AMRA Malta Mods

Skyline Speedway Results   May 25, 2012
By Scott Wolfe

STEWART, OHIO-A racy track and a field of 74 cars in four classes set the back drop for one of the most prolific finishes in Skyline Speeway history Friday night when Jason Montgomery, Jackson, Ohio and Chris Garnes tangled at the flag stand, sending both cars in to a wild spin into turns one and two. Montgomery picked up the win in the exciting AMRA Tru-Tech Late Model finale, while veteran Danny Smith, Chillicothe, Ohio claimed the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association main, and Jeremy Berwanger picked up his fourth Skyline AMRA Malta Windows Modified feature win.
In what looked to be just another day at the races, fast timer Andy Bond set the pace in the AMRA Late Model main, grabbing the early lead over two-time defending champion Chris Garnes. Garnes led through lap eight when the race's second caution flew. Bond was at his side waiting for the opportunity, but on the restart Garnes began a march to a semi-comfortable lead.
Bond and Jason Montgomery thrashed the highbanks for a shot at second, swapping positions regularly to lap eleven when Mongomery took over second for good. The Jackson Ironman pursued the leader Garnes with a vengeance and began to reel him in when a caution waved for Eric Foster and lap 18. Montgomery and Garnes then went center stage as Montgomery staged a slide job for the top spot. Garnes repelled the assault as the two grappled for the same section of the Skyline red clay.
The eventual winner in his Estes/Montgomery Machine/Rocket #21 passed Garnes on lap twenty three but Garnes regained the spot; Montgomery did a power slide to resume the lead, but Garnes again countered only to have Racin' Jason blast off turn four for the lead on lap 24. All the while both drivers exchanged paint with Garnes trying the cross over on the back chute, only to be denied. Garnes went high; Montgomery low coming out of four where the #21 tailed out and Garnes looked for room to make the pass only to drive under Montgomery's quarters locking both cars together, and ingniting a wild and wooly melee that scattered flying sheet metal and plastic amid the two wildly spinning cars.
Locked together as one as the high-speed spin untangled, both cars broke free for separate wild, spiraling rides near the concrete retaining wall.
The up-front dramatics overshadowed Bond's great ride, and solid performances from Freddie Carpenter and Ralph Withem. Colten Burdette had to go pitside after running in the top five much of the race, while Dad Jeff Burdette came on strong late to thwart good runs from Kevin Layne and Dan Morrison.
Behind Montgomery and Garnes were Andy Bond, Freddie Carpenter, Ralph Withem, Jeff Burdette, Kevin Layne, Dan Morrison, Mike McPherson, and Justin Powell. Jeff Burdette was the hard charger in the late models moving up 6 positions from 12th to 6th.
The OVSCA 410 Outlaw sprint feature was a good one, but less melodramatic than the opening Late Model main. At a ground shaking, torrid pace, the race went green-to-checkered. Going into turn one Jimmy Nier, Piketon, OH blasted into the lead, then Aaron Higgins bicycled through the middle of the turn with Smith down low in an daunting 3-wide battle.
Nier made a run on Smith going into turn three, but from that point on Smith throttled up to overdrive and charged on to the non-stop win. Nier, Jimmy Stinson, Andre Layfield, and Higgins fought for position with Wayne McPeek, who later went pitside with mechanical woes. Josh Davis and Nathan Skaggs had a race-long battle with Kory Crabtree and Dave Dickson. Late in the race, both Crabtree and Skaggs charged forward, knocking Davis out of the frey and shuffling the earlier contender Layfield back two positions.
Nier pulled within striking distance a couple of times, however, Smith flexed his muscle in the Coors Light Gang Maxim #4 and blasted on to the win. Rounding out the top ten were Smith, Jimmy Nier, Aaron Higgins, Jimmy Stinson, Kory Crabtree, Nathan Skaggs, Andre Layfield, Josh Davis, Dave Dickson, and Lance Webb.
Nathan Skaggs was the Hard charger in the sprints moving up 3 positions from 9th to 6th. Jimmy Stinson blistered the red-clay highbanks with a scorching 12:16 fast time.
In the AMRA Malta Windows Modified main by Hoosier Tires, Jeremy Berwanger clung to the gift that keeps on giving. Leading all 20 laps, Berwanger rocketed to victory lane--a place he has called home four times this season including a Road Warrior $2,000 to win race a couple weeks ago.
For a while, Berwanger--The Murray City Bandit-- was flanked two car-lengths back by Robbie Evans and Andy Bond. Evans and Bond raced hard for over half the race--Evans hugging the inside groove and Bond high and on the throttle in the upper groove. Bond took over second on the 12th circuit, just about the time that Jeremy Blake kicked his mount up a notch. Blake began a charge to the front, eclipsing huge chunks of turf that he had surrendered earlier in the race.
Blake got by Evans for third, all the while that Mike McPherson, Dusty Boley, and Aaron Pendleton put on one of the best passing shows of the night. Boley took the point in the early stages and McPherson and Pendleton exchanged positions nearly every lap. McPherson then nabbed Boley, setting into play a battle between those chargers. Pendleton moved by Boley, but Boley leap-frogged back ahead of the young Jackson, OH charger. Kurt Stacy drove a consistent race and made a late race drive that helped him preserve a share of hard-charger honors.
At the end it was the winning Berwanger followed by Andy Bond, Jeremy Blake, Robbie Evans, Mike McPherson, Dusty Boley, Aaron Pendelton, Jeremy Roush, Curt Stacy, and veteran Bob Adams, Jr. Hard chargers in the modifieds moving up 4th positions each were Andy Bond from 6th to 2nd, Jeremy Blake from 7th to 3rd, Curt Stacy from 13th to 9th, and Tyler Evans from 16th to 12th. Young Tyler Evans won the B-main, his first victory in a full-blown V-8.
Within the next month Skyline will have a mini wedge track built in the infield. Currently the young stars race on the big track, but soon a new racing surface will be built in the infield. Zach Carr beat out Martin Gibson, Jr. for the Mike's Auto Body Mini-Wedge main, while Austin Washburn, Madison Martin, Skylar Zimmerman, Kasey Rankin, Kalista Barnes, Tanner Martin, Shylan Morris, Ryan Bigley, and Coleman Evans rounded out the line-up.
Skyline will run AMRA Lates, AMRA Modifieds, 410 OVSCA Sprint cars and Steel Block Late Models again next week. For more information please visit << www.skylinespeedway.net >> or call 304-539-4410 or the track phone at 740-662-4111.

Burdette Doubles in AMRA Supers and Semi’s
Malta Mods to Henry/ OVSCA Sprints to Broughton
By Scott Wolfe

STEWART, OHIO-A beautiful spring night and 90 cars in five classes entertained the large crowd at Billy Jarrell's Skyline Speedway Friday night where rookie Ryan Broughton, Chillicothe, Ohio area driver claimed the tantalizing twenty-five lap Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association (OVSCA) 410 sprint car main. K-C Burdette, Parkersburg, WV became the second straight GM Crate Engine to win a Super Late model win in the Tru-Tech AMRA Late Models, while veteran Doug Henry, Beverly, OH grabbed the Malta Windows AMRA Modified main, Burdette took the Semi Late main, and Cole Mayle won the Mike's Auto Body mini-wedge main.

Just like last week young Ryan Broughton jumped into the early lead in the OVSCA main. Broughton vaulted into the initial lead over veteran Jimmy Nier of Piketon, OH.  On the third lap Jeff Conrad slammed the third turn wall, but was uninjured. Broughton, who led over half the race last week, went green-to-checkered this week for the huge win over a veteran field.
At the ten lap mark, Nathan Skaggs, another up-and-coming driver, put a slide job on Nier for third. That came five laps after Dave Dickson grabbed second from Nier in a drag race into turn one.
Unlike last week when the master Danny Smith played a game of cat-and-mouse with Broughton, the young terror showed much poise in working the traffic and charging on to the win. Dickson won a tight battle for second over Skaggs, while Jimmy Stinson and Aaron Higgins worked their way into the top five .
Up from the mini-sprints, the twenty-year old charger and son of former chauffeur Tony Broughton was elated in victory lane after his first ever 410 win.
"We are learning each time out and we are pretty good on these slick tracks," said Broughton.  "It means so much to get this win, especially for my Dad--he makes this car work. Sometimes we are out to lunch on the tacky tracks, but tonight this was my kind of racing. Thanks to everyone who made this win possible."
Broughton's George Fisher GF-1 Chassis/ HG Fisher powered 22 was the class of the field, lapping cars into the top ten and winning by nearly a half track.
Behind Broughton and rounding out the top ten were Dickson, Nathan Skaggs, Aaron Higgins, Jimmy Stinson, Jimmy Nier, Wayne McPeek, Brian Benson, Josh Davis, and Eric Martin.
The hard charger was Wayne McPeek in a 13th to 6th place run.
K-C Burdette led nearly every lap officially in a torrid 6 minute and 59-second flag-to-flag win over defending champion Chris Garnes.  Spinning a web of deceit and stealth-like precision, Garnes baited Burdette for a shot at the victory.
Burdette's Rayburn chassis/GM Crate Engine powered Burdette Construction -Milhone Motorsports KC 44 actually fell to second to Garnes on the turn one entry, but a lap later, Burdette --with sparks flying off the back chute wall-- recovered to again reclaim the lead with two laps to go. Garnes made another run but fell short by a car length at the finish.

"We worked on the car all night long to make it better and had it where we wanted by feature time,” said a happy Burdette.  “I knew I had a pretty good lead , then Chris (Garnes) closed the gap pretty quick in traffic.  I knew when he got up there that I had to tighten it down and run my own race."
The AMRA Late Model racing at Skyline continues to be a who’s-who of stock car racing.  Also, having great runs were former champ Jason Montgomery, Colten Burdette, and the Carpenter boys.  Champions from around the area and former Skyline champs flanked the top ten of Burdette, Garnes, Jason Montgomery, Colten Burdette, Chris Carpenter, Tyler Carpenter, Ralph Withem, Nick Dohm, Freddie Carpenter, and Andy Bond. The hard charger was Ronnie Mayle in a 15th to 11th run.

In the drama-filled AMRA Malta Windows Modified main,  wheelman Shawn Donahue , the first heat winner, took the initial lead for four laps, then went three wide with Roy Roush and Doug Henry. The three-way battle continued with Roush leading laps five through seven, when Henry took over and charged on to victory.

Late in the race 3-time winner Jeremy Berwanger and Tyler Carpenter charged to the front, then duelled to the finish.  Berwanger finally anchored down the position. Henry's Swartz chassis-Henry powered Chevrolet blasted on to the popular victory. Roush settled for fourth and Donahue fifth as both consistently posted fast lap times.

The top ten were  Henry,  Berwanger, Tyler Carpenter,   Roush, Shawn Donahue, Jeremy Blake, Dusty Boley, Andy Bond, Ryan Stoops, and Mike McPherson. The hard charger of the race was Blake in a 16th to 6th place run.

"The key to the win was my crew just working their butts off on this car. We changed about everything on this car but the kitchen sink,” laughed Henry. “But tonight it really come to life."

Delbert Bub Crum took the lead in the steel block semi-late , but quickly was reeled in by Frankie Hall, who held off double-duty KC Burdette and Crum for most of the race.  Hall survived a late race caution for hard charging Jason Gillian who slammed the front stretch wall. Then out of the blue KC Burdette hit turbo charge and blasted past hall on the 17th circuit and on to the win.

Behind the winning Burdette were Hall, Bub Crum, T.J. Roush, Brian Daniels, Joe Bowie, Doug Wriston, Chris Parks, Jason Gillian, and Pete Crum. The hard charger was Joe Bowie in a 11th to 6th place run.

Picking up where he left off last year, Cole Mayle picked up the Mike’s Auto Body Mini-Wedge main.  The top runners were Cole Mayle, Skylar Zimmerman, Austin Washburn, Madison Martin, Samantha Roush, Martin Gibson, Jr., Coleman Evans, Curstin Giffin, and Tanner Martin.

Skyline will host another big show next Friday, May 25.  For more information please  visit  << www.skylinespeedway.net  >> or call 304-539-4410 or the track phone at 740-662-4111.

Skyline Speedway Results FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 11, 2012
Smith Doubles in OVSCA Sprints
Garnes Grabs 3rd LM Main/Dohm Dominate in Nightcap
Berwanger Blitzs Road Warriors/Stotts Stomps Malta Mods/Burdette Best In Semi’s

STEWART, OHIO-Oh what a Night! Seven features on a fast Friday at Skyline Speedway. Former American Motor Racing Association champion Jeremy Berwanger, the Murray City Bandit, outlasted the constant challenges of veterans Andy Bond and Kenny Johnson to claim the hefty $2,000 to win Malta Windows AMRA Road Warrior Challenge event at Billy Jarrell's Skyline Speedway Friday night.
Danny Smith, Chillicothe, Ohio was the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association make-up feature winner and Chris Garnes, Evans, WV claimed the Tru-Tech AMRA late Model victory. Smith doubled in the sprints after a gallant battle with Ryan Broughton in the nightcap, while young Nick Dohm, Cross Lanes, WV brought home his first-ever Super Late Model win in the AMRA LM division, Chris Stotts, Athens, Ohio claimed the Malta Modified feature, and K.C. Burdette bested the field of Steel Block semi-lates.
Perhaps one of the closest races of the night was the flag to flag 30-lap, Malta Windows AMRA Road Warrior Challenge feature. Defending two-time National Champion Kenny Johnson, Mineral Wells, WV led the first two laps, then Jeremy Berwanger edged by on the next circuit. For the next fifteen laps Berwanger and Johnson went side-by-side, tooth-and-nail in what proved to be an exciting race for the full house of fiery fans.
Johnson scrubbed off some speed in an effort to cleanly pass a lapped car on lap 18, leaving the fight for second between the defending champ and Skyline champion Andy Bond, Coolville, Ohio.
That race was a barnburner until Johnson’s tires faded and Bond started to hook up on the thread of moisture on the bottom. Bond closed the gap somewhat, but Berwanger’s masterful work in traffic made it an eight car length lead at the finish ahead of Bond and Johnson.
Much action took place throughout the field. Although passing was at a premium, up-and-coming Nick Carr was the hard charger in a 17th to 11th run. The field was dotted with a who’s who of modified racers as nine of the top ten drivers have been track champions over the past several years.
A four way tango of Doug Henry, the defending RWT champ, Matt Holcomb the 2010 champ, Robbie Evans, and Mike “Bird” Wilson was just as impressive as the run for the lead. At the point Berwanger’s Lightning/Lloyd Racing Engines #44 began to stretch it out for the win.

Rounding out the top ten were Berwanger, Andy Bond, Kenny Johnson, Doug Henry, Matt Holcomb, Robbie Evans, Mike Wilson, Roy Roush, Jeremy Blake, and Rick Venham, Jr..
Said Berwanger in victory lane, “Wow, this car has just been awesome. This was a big win for us, one of my biggest career wins. The AMRA went all out tonight. $2,000 is a lot of money (laughing). I had a pretty good car under me tonight and that Billy Lloyd engine really got me off the turns.”
“Thanks to Charles (Faires), my Dad, my family and my crew for putting a great car under me.”
Second place Andy Bond noted, “We didn’t have enough gear and that caused the tire to glaze over. I just couldn’t keep it spinning enough to keep heat in it.”
“Kenny and I had a good race going and I made a little run on Jeremy, but I really had to romp on it to keep that right rear to fire,” Bond added. “Second place isn’t bad though.”
“We got a good start and once Jeremy was able to get under me I had to move up the track to keep my momentum going,” said an enthusiastic yet disappointed Johnson.
“I worked the right rear just a little too hard a little too early, and just didn’t have enough at the end,” said the multi-time AMRA Champion.
In the make-up twenty-five lap OVSCA sprint car feature, Danny Smith led flag to flag in a run-away over Andre Layfield. The veteran was again masterful as the original outlaw blasted around all parts of the challenging 3/8mile oval. Once in the lead, Smith totally dominated for the win.
Rounding out the top ten were Smith, Layfield, Jimmy Stinson, Wayne McPeek, Ryan Broughton, Dave Dickson, Josh Davis, Kory Crabtree, Greg Mitchell, and Eric Martin. The hard charger of the race was “Fine Wine”—‘getting better with age’-- Dave Dickson who shot from ninth to sixth.
Chris Garnes, Evans, WV had the field covered in the 25-lap AMRA Tru-Tech Customs late model main, but following a caution on the 22nd lap, veteran Andy Bond gave Garnes a little scare. The excitement was short-lived as Garnes once again found his groove and throttled on to an easy win.
K-C Burdette came on strong as did LM Rookie Mike McPherson, who seems well at home in the Curtis C53 . Burdette passed Ralph Withem on the next-to-last lap for third, while McPherson nailed down fifth.
The hard charger was youngster Nick Dohm who powered from 14th to 6th on what was a tricky track to pass on. Behind winning Garnes was Andy Bond, KC Burdette, Ralph Withem, Mike McPherson, Nick Dohm, Dan Morrison, Ronnie Mayle, Freddie Carpenter, and Anthony Huber.
Highlights of the heat racing included Rookie Ryan Broughton claiming his first- ever 410 sprint win. Up from the mini-wedges a year ago, youngster Jason Gillian claimed a heat win in the Steel Block Late Model/Semi Late heat.

In the regularly scheduled OVSCA sprint main Ryan Broughton showed the poise of a veteran as the pole sitter rambled side by side with Andre Layfield for the first five laps. Broughton held a slight edge until Jimmy Stinson dropped off the back-chute and averted the end of the pit chute wall.

On the restart Broughton shot into the lead by a wide margin. As the field came around for lap eight, Layfield slowed to bring out the race’s second caution, putting Danny Smith on young Broughton’s rear nerf. Broughton pulled away, but as the pair approached lapped traffic, Smith's expertise kicked into gear.
Smith took the lead on lap 18 and zoomed on to his second win of the night in his Maxim/JD Engines/Coors Light Gang #4.
The crafty Smith credited the night's second win to "patience", saying "The kid in the 22 did a great job. I think traffic started getting to him just a little, and I had the advantage of being in second and seeing what I needed to do. I just waited for the right moment. The car was good and thanks to everyone for coming out tonight."
Adam Strausser was the hard charger in a 14th to ninth place run into the top ten. Behind second place Broughton were Dave Dickson, Kory Crabtree, Josh Davis, Wayne McPeek, Jimmy Nier, Jimmy Stinson, and Adam Strausser.
Youngster Nick Dohm in his 525 GM Crate Engine/Rocket Chassis and Ralph Withem paced the field of the night's second AMRA LM feature. Dohm had the slight advantage when the caution flew on lap two, stringing out the field in single file.

Following another caution, Dohm, who had built up a big lead, had to restart the field once again. Dohm led comfortably by three car length’s until lap nineteen when Garnes and Withem engaged in a torrid battle.

As Garnes pressed Withem, the duo both picked up the pace, catching the young Dohm and passing him on the 23rd lap. With Dohm in third now, another caution flew. Dohm was relegated to the lead after scorers reverted back to the last completed lap. Under intense pressure from both Withem and Garnes, Dohm surged on for the win.

“The key to the win was the caution,” said Dohm as he breathed a sigh of relief. “Another key was all the help I get from my dad. We changed the car after the first feature then didn't touch it the rest of the night and it worked perfectly.”

Anthony Huber was the hard charger in a 16th to 10th run. Behind Dohm was Chris Garnes, Ralph Withem, Chris Carpenter, Andy Bond, Colten Burdette, Freddie Carpenter, Ronnie Mayle, Brian Eaton, and Anthony Huber.

In the Malta Windows AMRA Modified main, Chris Stotts raced into another galaxy far ahead of his nearest competitors. With Stotts at the helm of the high speed freight train, the race ran green-to-checkered in less than six minutes.
While Jeremy Blake, Kenny Johnson, Andy Bond, Jeremy Berwanger, and Roy Roush trundled for position, Stott's Swartz/ Roush-Yates/Carthage Auto Parts S-8 rolled on to the easy win. The hard charger of the race was Robbie Evans in a 15th to 11th run.
Behind Stotts, was Jeremy Blake, Kenny Johnson, Andy Bond, Jeremy Berwanger, Roy Roush, Jason Brooks, Brian Whiteman, Doug Henry, and Matt Holcomb.
KC Burdette jumped into the early lead in the Steel Block Late Model main and brought home the victory over Bub Crum, Jeff Burdette, Jason Gillian, Frankie Hall, T.J. Roush, Matt Kussmaul, Roy Dodson, James Joy, Rodney Gibson, Pete Crum, and Nelson Freshour.
All action was completed just after 11:30, including a complete program and seven features overall—a great credit to the Skyline crew and staff. Skyline will return to action next Friday, May 18 with four exciting classes.

$2,000 to win in Malta Mods

Skyline To Run Double Features May 11
Action Packed Night of Racing for Regular Admission
May 4 Program Declared Complete Program

STEWART, OHIO-Many fans expressed concerns of the potential "Late Night Hour" for this week's super action-packed night of racing May 11 at Skyline Speedway, where fans can see double features in all divisions. In an effort to get fans and drivers home at a decent hour, there will be no qualifications in any division for the second show. Line-ups will go by pill draw. The May 4 features are all locked in except for the Late Model main.

After declaring the program complete for Friday, May 4, Billy Jarrell's Skyline Speedway will host double features in all divisions including the $2,000 to win Malta Windows AMRA Road Warrior Modified event. The fields have been set in the Malta Modifieds and OVSCA 410 Outlaw Sprints. Skyline will complete the Late Model B-main and run double features in the Tru-Tech AMRA Late Models Friday, May 11, then after the "May 4 features", begin a complete new program (Modifieds, Sprints, Late Models, Steel Block Late Models).
The new program will feature, heat races, B-mains as necessary, and features for the Malta AMRA Modifieds, Tru-Tech AMRA Late Models, and OVSCA Sprint Cars. Because last week was considered a complete program--due to over half the events being run-- there are no rain checks. Armbands from last week will not be good as all heats were completed. Fans, however, will be treated to a full evening of racing excitement for one low price of admission: $15 Adult, $12 Sr. Citizens, Kids 12-and-Under Free, and Pits $30.

"It seemed we had a low Steel Block car count because many steel block guys had Aluminum heads." noted Jarrell. "Yes, Aluminum heads will now be allowed at Skyline. Also, we will meet prior to the event to establish a fair and competitive weight rule."
All new cars will be accepted for the new May 11 racing program as it is a new show. New cars will be locked out of features already set from last Friday (May 4). Those fields are already established.
The first AMRA Late Model feature will be the first round of the "Six Pack Series" between Skyline and I-77 Raceway Park. Those cars and drivers will be competing for a "six-race" point fund that pays the winner $1,000.
The regularly scheduled May 11th Malta Mod feature will be the "Six Pack" event for the Modifieds paying a point fund bonus of $600 for the six-race package. To further clarify, the modified "Six Pack" race is not the Road Warrior feature.

Octane Racing Products is now on board as a sponsor of AMRA in 2012, and has added $1000 to the AMRA National Points fund, again making the modified national points' $5000 to win. Octane will add contingency awards in random drawings at the banquet to racers displaying the Octane Racing Products decals.

By Scott Wolfe

STEWART, OHIO-The Malta Windows AMRA Road Warrior Challenge series kicked off the season in a big way Friday, May 4 when a host of potent open-wheel modifieds turned out for the $2,000 to win thirty lap feature event. Unfortunately, the big winner was the female nemesis ‘Mother Nature’ as rains came after the modified B-main to wash out the remainder of the event.

In the companion American Motor Racing Association Tru-Tech Late Model series 35 cars staged for the evening’s racing, the first in the "Six-Pack" specialty points' series between Skyline and I-77 Raceway Park.  Additionally,  the Ohio Valley Sprint Car  Association (OVSCA) 410 Sprint cars were on hand for what turned out to be a “bad fast” racing surface.

The evening started with a ridge-riding fast time from defending AMRA Malta Mod champ Kenny Johnson, Mineral Wells, WV, who tripped the clock at 14:07.  Following were three exciting heat races that saw Johnson smoke the field in heat one, Mike McPherson took heat two honors and defending Malta Road Warrior champ Doug Henry claimed the third qualifier.

Andy Bond, Coolville, set fast time in the late models at 12:41,   Heat winners were Chris Garnes, Ronnie Mayle, Mike McPherson, and Ralph Withem.

Two-time defending Skyline and OVSCA champion Jimmy Stinson blasted the Skyline red clay to the tune of 10:77. Heat winners were Jimmy Stinson and Danny Smith.  Dave Dickson and Kory Crabtree executed a double flip in the first heat but both drivers were ok.

The B-main for the Late Models was in the chute when torrential rains pounded the speedway and surrounding Southeastern Ohio .

As of press time, Skyline tentatively will complete the Late Model B-main and run double features in all divisions next Friday, May 11.

Octane Racing Products will be on board as a sponsor of AMRA in 2012 and will add $1000 to the AMRA National Points fund, again making the modified national points' $5000 to win. Octane will add contingency awards in random drawings at the banquet to racers displaying the Octane Racing Products decals.

AMRA Road Warriors Up to $2,000 to Win!

and "Six Pack" AMRA Late Models plus OVSCA Sprints and Steel Block Late Models

MALTA Windows and Hoosier Tire Boost RWT Challenge/ Now $2,000 to Win!
Poske's Performance Parts Boosts Malta Mods to 2G
Six Pack Power Skyline LM Special May 4/Wallace to Beckley May 11

MT. ALTO, WV- A new development in the AMRA has seen the boost of Friday's (May 4) Malta Modified feature at Skyline Speedway jump to $2,000 to win. Earlier today, the American Motor Racing Association (AMRA) announced its opening date for the highly touted Road Warrior Challenge series for this Friday, May 4 at Billy Jarrell's Skyline Speedway in Stewart, Ohio. Originally, the Malta Windows modifieds were running for the Silver RWT purse that traditionally pays $1,200 to win. Sponsors boosted the winning amount an additional $500, then later this afternoon Dave Poske of Poske's Performance parts contributed $300 to the winning prize money making Friday's race a $2,000 to win show for the modifieds. The race pays $150 to start.

Skyline will also run the first "Six-Pack" for AMRA Tru-Tech Late Models, Steel Block Late Models, and Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association 410 Outlaw sprints.

Some of the best names in open wheel racing will assemble for the initial AMRA trek to Southern Ohio. The added winning bonus money has already lured some of the finest Modified drivers in the country to inquire about Friday's landmark event. In 2011 the Road Warrior tour saw Beverly, Ohio driver Doug Henry take the points race right down to the final night in a tight battle with Deana Groves. Kenny Johnson, who plans on attending Skyline Friday was the National champion and in 2010 was the Skyline Champion.

This year the Road Warrior Tour will pay $2,500 to the 10-race series winner, $1,250 for second, and $1,000, $900, $750, $600, $500, and $500. The $8,000 touring money comes in addition to a National $26,000 point fund that pays the top 25 drivers. Sponsor negotiations in progress potentially could expand that point fund within the next two weeks.

In an effort to 'raise-the-bar' and add a new twist to a tradition of tough competition, Skyline Speedway will also kick off the first week of the "Six Pack" series for the AMRA Tru-Tech Late Models a joint effort between Skyline and I-77 Raceway Park near Fairplane, WV.

The AMRA is looking host at least one more $2,000-to-win Road Warrior event, plus again hosting the Annual Greg Schilling Memorial, a pilgrimage honoring one of the AMRA greats.

Many AMRA sanctioned tracks will be open this weekend. The starting dates for all AMRA tracks are as follows: Skyline Speedway www.skylinespeedway.net (Open), Ohio Valley Speedway http://www.ohiovalleyspeedway.com/ April 28, Jackson County Speedway , http://www.jacksoncospeedway.com/ (Open), The Legendary Hilltop Speedway May 18 http://www.legendaryhilltop.com/ , Midway Speedway http://www.midwayracing.com/ May 19, Thunder Mountain, http://www.racethundermountain.com/ April 28, Beckley Motorsports Park http://www.beckleymotorsports.com/ (Open), I-77 Raceway Park http://www.racei77.com/ April 28, and O'Brion Oval Speedway http://www.obrionovalspeedway.co.nr/ May 19. Natural Bridge ( Virginia) Speedway http://www.nbspeedway.com/ opened April 14 and will host the AMRA Road Warriors June 9, 2012.

Friday, May 11 NASCAR Star Kenny Wallace, who also doubles as a celebrity broadcaster on the SPEED Channel, will be behind the wheel of a MALTA Windows AMRA Modified at Beckley Motorsports Park. Wallace will be driving his UNOH Motorsports Special, collaboration between auto racing greats and the University of Northern Ohio.

Information for that race can be found at http://www.beckleymotorsports.com/ .

Smith Smothers Sprints April 27, 2012

Carpenter Covers AMRA Tru-Tech Lates
Berwanger Doubles In Malta AMRA Mods

Skyline Speedway Results FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
By Scott Wolfe
STEWART, OHIO-Despite heavy rains all day Thursday, Billy Jarrell’s Skyline Speedway crew prepped the fast three-eighths mile track for a great night of racing Friday, April 27th. Claiming the win in the powerful Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association series was Veteran outlaw Danny Smith of Chillicothe, Ohio, who won in a torrid Battle-Royal with Jimmy Stinson and Andre Layfield. South Parkersburg, WV driver Chris Carpenter broke Chris Garnes' winning streak with the win in the AMRA Late Model main, and Jeremy Berwanger, the Murray City Bandit, claimed the AMRA modified victory for the second straight week. Overall, 74 cars in three classes were in the pits.
At the start of the OVSCA 410 Sprint car feature, Grafton, WV's Andre Layfield got a good start over outside polesitter, veteran Danny Smith. Last week’s winner Jimmy Stinson also bagged Smith for second and began to chase down Layfield.
The drama that ensued was a classic open wheel firestorm. Stinson challenged Layfield to take the lead going into turn one on lap six, but the move scrubbed speed off both cars allowing Smith to take the lead the next time around and for good on the eleventh circuit.
A great three-way battle saw Layfield regain the lead with Stinson and Smith in tow. Jimmy Nier momentarily took third from Smith, but Smith had a resurgence to assume the lead once again passing both Stinson and Layfield.
Stinson and Smith's iconic JD Engines/Maxim #4 locked horns the rest of the way and with two laps to go Stinson darted by Smith. Amid heavy lapped traffic Smith returned the favor with a final kamikaze move in a feature event that saw multiple lead changes.
Not only was the up-front battle a good one, but late race surges from McPeek, Dickson, and fast-timer Josh Davis highlighted the action. Layfield had a lap 18 bout with the wall that slowed his charge. On the score-sheet Smith looked to dominate, but in between jaunts to the start-finish line prolific bursts of hardcore passing kept the Midwestern fans standing.
Smith said in victory lane, "Wow, what a race. I didn't know if I could get back by (Stinson) the seond time. I guess the difference tonight was just being in the right spot at the right time."
Rounding out the top ten were Danny Smith, Jimmy Stinson, Jimmy Nier, Wayne McPeek, Dave Dickson, Josh Davis, Andre Layfield, Kory Crabtree, Aaron Higgins, and Greg Mitchell. Hard chargers were Jimmy Nier and Josh Davis.
In the AMRA Tru-Tech Late Model main, rubber locked down the track, making passing a premium. Chris Carpenter was the early beneficiary as he jolted into the lead over Chris Garnes, a two-time winner already in 2012 at Skyline.
The duo survived several early cautions as a freight train of hot iron gave hot pursuit. On the 12th circuit, C-main winner Freddie Carpenter broke a left front suspension to bring out the caution after clipping an inside uke tire. Carpenter's night of coming off the tail in the C-main to win and then transferring from the B came to an end.
When the race resumed the "Two-Chris Tandem" tangoed nose to tail in an exciting battle. Ralph Withem and Tony Roush hammered it out for third in another great on-track dual. Meanwhile, Ronnie Mayle, Mike Martin, Larry Bond, and steel block driver Nelson Freshour scrapped with Andy Bond.
Carpenter's Tru-tech Customs/Kryptonite Chassis/Carpenter-built 430 Chevrolet pulled away the last two laps after Garnes raked off some speed in a last ditch effort to take home the win.
Rounding out the top ten were Chris Carpenter, Chris Garnes, Ralph Withem, Tony Roush, Ronnie Mayle, Mike Martin, Larry Bond, Nelson Freshour, Andy Bond, and Paul Wilmoth, Jr. Chad Green and Sammy Stiles, the PA driver, shared hard charger honors with a leap of five positions in advancement.
"The key tonight was my crew helping me get my head on straight," exclaimed Carpenter. "We fought an engine miss in the heat and I got frustrated, so my guys settled me down and they got the car all worked out. We work our butts off all week and all night at the track. I credit this win to my crew."
In the AMRA MALTA Modified main, Former AMRA National champion Jeremy Berwanger launched into the lead from his pole starting perch. Heat winners Rick Venham,Jr. and Dusty Boley gave chase. That pair held off an anxious AMRA RWT champ Doug Henry for many laps as Berwanger’s Lightning/Lloyd Racing Engines #44 began to stretch it out up front.
With six laps down the field tightened due to a Casey Fritz spin. Jeremy Blake, Vince Conrad, and Andy Bond fought it out for position back in the pack with Blake challenging Henry for 4th. Blake continued to blitz with a late-race surge, moving to second and making a run on the winner. Boley finished strong, as did Bond who moved into the top five.
Rounding out the top ten were Jeremy Berwanger, Jeremy Blake, Dusty Boley, Andy Bond, Doug Henry, Vince Conrad, Rick Venham, Shawn Donahue, Roy Roush, and Frankie Roush. Blake and Shawn Donahue each picked up five spots for hard-charger honors.
“We’re back,” proclaimed a happy Berwanger in victory lane. “Charles (Faires) has this Lightning Chassis back in winning form. We’re happy to be back in victory lane, especially having the chance to be back here two weeks in a row.”
Next week, May 4, 2012. Skyline hosts the AMRA MALTA Modified Road Warrior Tour and the first of the Skyline/I-77 "Six Pack" Late Model Series. The LM "Six pack" pays $1,000 in points money to the series winner.

Skyline/I-77 to Host Six-Pack Specials
Six Races Paying Special Point Fund
Skyline to Run Steel Block Late Models April 27

STEWART, OHIO-In an effort to 'raise-the-bar' and add an added twist to a tradition of tough competition, Skyline Speedway in Stewart, Ohio and I-77 Raceway Park near Fairplane, WV will host another year of "Six-Pack" Special events. The "Six-Pack" series will feature six races on six different nights, three at Skyline and three at I-77. Last year, the events were a huge success for the AMRA Late Models which saw Chris Garnes, Evans, WV take the $1,000 "Six-Pack" series crown.
Last year, the series was just for AMRA Late Models, however, this year Billy Jarrell of Skyline and Kenny Newhouse at I-77 have upped the ante to the Malta AMRA Modified Series.
Billy Jarrell has announced that the first "Six Pack" event will be May 4th for the AMRA Late Models at the fast Skyline Speedway. The following week, May 11 will be the first "Six-Pack" event for the Modifieds at Skyline.
This year's "Six-Pack" point fund will pay $1,000 to the winner, $600 for second, and $400 for third in the late models. Point money will be paid at the end or the year for the series. In the modified division, the winner will receive $600, $400, and $200. Additionally, each track will host a season-long point fund.
Jarrell at Skyline will continue the tradition of giving each series winner of Late Models, Modifieds, and Sprints a chassis for winning the season points at Skyline line in addition to over $15,000 in prizes and contingencies to the top competitors.
Piled on top of the Skyline awards each season is the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association point fund which again will pay cash and contingencies of $15,000-plus.
Friday, May 4 Skyline will host the Malta AMRA Road Warrior season opener. The event will be the first RWT event of the year. Details and a schedule can be found on the AMRA website.
Also, this week April 27 Skyline will add the Steel Block Late Models to the agenda of AMRA Late Models, AMRA Malta Modifieds, and OVSCA 410 Sprint cars.
The Steel Blocks will run for the same purse at I-77 (the same as at Skyline last season) and the rules are simple: All Steel Block Engines with no dry sumps or a legally sealed Crate Engine which can have Aluminum heads. If the engine is not a legit sealed Crate, then no aluminum heads. Class contingent on having a full field of cars (10 minimum).

Stinson Stuns OVSCA Two-Time Champ Sweeps
AMRA Lates to Garnes/MALTA Mods to Berwanger

By Scott Wolfe
STEWART, OHIO-Another beautiful evening of 80 degree weather provided the back drop for a hot evening of racing that featured another stout field of AMRA Late Models and MALTA Doors and Windows AMRA Modifieds at Billy Jarrell’s Skyline Speedway. In the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association (OVSCA) main Jimmy Stinson, Vandalia, Ohio made it a clean sweep by capturing fast time, his heat and the twenty-five-lap A main. Evans, WV driver and defending two-time champion Chris Garnes claimed the top prize in the AMRA Late Models and former AMRA champ Jeremy Berwanger captured the 20-lap MALTA Modified main.

In the OVSCA sprint car main fast timer Jimmy Stinson got the jump on outside pole sitter and heat winner Dave Dickson. Jimmy Nier quickly blitzed under Dickson for second and began a hot pursuit of Stinson. Stinson's B&J construction entry was a rocketship as he came within three tenths of a second of the track record at 10:57, an average speed of 130 miles per hour.Jimmy Stinson

In a fight for third Dave Dickson and Greg Mitchell fought tooth-and-claw for pieces of the fast Skyline turf. On lap seven, Dickson looped it for the third caution of the night, prompting a charge back to the front by the veteran driver by race’s end.

Stinson took no prisoners and continued his flat-footing charge. Nier held a solid second as rookie standout Ryan Broughton made a move on Mitchell with Nathan Skaggs close behind at the midway point.

Broughton's challenge awakened Mitchell who moved to the highside and began a bonsai blitz to retain position. Dickson came on strong, racing back to the top ten. Rounding out the top ten were Stinson, Nier, Mitchell, Broughton, Skaggs, Dickson, Eddie Slone, Brian Benson, Jesse McCreary, and Eric Martin.
Slone was hard charger in a 10th to seventh run, however, Dickson’s tail to 6th was equally impressive.

"The key to the win tonight was having Billy Jarrell as a owner and Gary Hall as a crew chief. He really knows how to make a car go," said Stinson. "Also, this was our type of track—fast and heavy."

The twenty-five lap AMRA Late Model main had plenty of action; however, an early daredevil move by second row starter Chris Garnes gave the eventual winner a huge advantage over front row starters and heat winners Andy Bond and Ralph Withem.

With Garnes securely out in front the epicenter of action was for second between Chris Carpenter, Withem, and Bond. Frankie Hall and the rejuvenated Bob Adams, Jr. --the 62-year old former 8-time track champion--hammered it out for fifth.

A lap eight caution wiped out Garnes' huge lead. Chris Carpenter sat poised directly on the rear quarters of Garnes for the next five circuits, sometimes bringing fans to their feet in a split between the two large fan bases.

Carpenter grabbed the lead on the restart, but Garnes quickly erased the brief encounter. Fast Freddie Carpenter stomped the fast pedal and moved up to third, while KC Burdette also made a great run toward the top five.

Mike McPherson, the modified ace, made a great run in his first-ever late model start. Young Chris Carpenter bounced of the wall in a gallant last ditch effort to run down the winning Garnes. Garnes claimed his second straight win and his fourth victory of the year in his dependable 2011 Swartz Extreme Chassis powered by Pro-Power.

"I just tried to hit my marks and protect my line on the bottom," said Garnes. "I knew I had to be good in traffic, and the way it went down, the spacing between the lapped cars allowed me to hit the cushion at just the right times. The car worked anywhere on the track."Chris Garnes April 20 2012 AMRA LM Winner

Rounding out the top ten were Chris Garnes, Chris Carpenter, Freddie Carpenter, Ralph Withem, KC Burdette, Andy Bond, Mike McPherson, Derek Doll, Kenny Newhouse, and Dan Morrison. Fast Freddie was the hard charger in a 14th to third place run. Morrison was impressive in a last to tenth place run. K-C Burdette came from 12th to 5th and Doll from 16th to 8th.

The always-exciting AMRA Modifieds went three to four wide for the early portions of the feature. Roy Roush took the early lead with a sizzling pursuit from Jeremy Berwanger. Vince Conrad and Rick Venham, Jr. were right in the mix, while a gaggle of cars led by Andy Bond, Brandon Barnhart, Dusty Boley, and Doug Henry fought for bragging rights in the top ten.

Andy Bond came on late in the race after Berwanger passed Roush for first on lap five. Bond held third ahead of Venham, Conrad, Boley and Jeremy Blake who all put on a great show.

Berwanger 4202012Berwanger, the Murray City Bandit, was this week’s cream of the crop, easily claiming the win and overshadowing an impressive run by second place Roush. Rounding out the top ten were Berwanger, Roy Roush, Andy Bond, Rick Venham, Vince Conrad, Dusty Boley, Jeremy Blake, Brandon Barnhart, Robbie Evans, Mike McPherson. Robbie Evans was the hard charger in a 17th to 9th place run.

Garnes Garners Skyline Lates, Duncan Dazzles 410 Sprints
Hartman Masters Malta Mods

Skyline Speedway Results April 13, 2012
By Scott Wolfe
STEWART, OHIO-Friday the 13th was the ticket for three drivers as seventy two cars in three divisions packed the pits for the 2012 season opener at Billy Jarrell's Skyline Speedway in Stewart, Ohio. Defending champion Chris Garnes of Evans, WV brought home the win over early leader Freddie Carpenter in the AMRA Tru-Tech Late Models. In the OVSCA sprint car spectacular, Lockborne, Ohio Driver Cole Duncan blitzed the fast 410's for the win, and in the Malta Windows and Doors AMRA Modifieds Jess Hartman claimed the feature win.
Marshall Doll in the iconic Doll Brother's Special #87 and Corey Conley paced the potent AMRA Tru-Tech Late Model field to Todd Gorrell's unfurled green flag. Doll led he first lap, but Freddie Carpenter with Chris Garnes and Corey Conley in tow, all freight trained the WV invader. By lap ten, Carpenter had blitzed to a six car length lead over Conley. Lapped traffic became more of a factor as the race progressed, enabling Conley and Garnes to close the gap.
Masterfully, Fast Freddie had made ground on the bottom, but his progress slowed so he went topside, where he met with more backmarkers. Kevin Layne brought out the first caution on lap 20. When the race resumed, Carpenter led one more lap-- twenty overall-- but two-time defending champion Chris Garnes blasted to the highside and carried the momentum for the lap 21 pass coming out of four.
Doll finished strong with an impressive third, flanked by steady performances from Travis Brooker, Andy Bond and Ralph Withem.
Rounding out the top ten were Garnes, Carpenter, Conley, Doll, Brookover, Bond, Withem, Jeff Burdette, Dan Morrison, and Ronnie Mayle. Randy Armes and Ralph Withem shared hard charger honors by advancing five positions each.
At the start of the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association main, pole sitter Jimmy Nier blasted into the lead over outside pt.-man Cole Duncan. Jimmy Stinson, the defending series champ nestled closely in third. Nier put on a masterful slide job of two lapped cars, separating himself from Duncan and Stinson for a short period.
By lap five Cole Duncan blasted around the backmarkers to challenge Nier. As the race tightened, Nick Forcum looped it on lap 12 and collected a spinning Chris Smith. When the race resumed Duncan gave chase and on lap 17 blitzed by Nier for the lead going into turn three. The race was slowed once again a lap later when Kory Crabtree did a 360 to bring out the caution.
This time Duncan would restart the field, pulling both Nier and Stinson by a few yards right out of the gate. Nier and Stinson diced it up for second with Andre Layfield moving into the mix and eventually taking third.
As the race wound to a close Dave Dickson moved into the mix and was one of the faster cars on the track at the time.
Layfield fended off Dickson for position as Duncan crossed the line for the win. Eric Martin won his first ever heat and continued a strong night with a sixth place finish. Crabtree mounted a charge from the tail up to seventh after his late race spin. Additionally, sprint car Rookie Ryan Broughton did a credible job in his first-ever start.
Rounding out the top ten were Cole Duncan, Jimmy Stinson, Jimmy Nier, Andre Layfield, Dave Dickson, Eric Martin, Kory Crabtree, Ryan Broughton, Bryce Dickson, and Brian Benson. The hard charger of the night was shared by Layfield and Dave Dickson. Chris Myers was the lone flip victim of the night. He was uninjured.
In the Malta Windows and Doors 20-lap mod main, Jeremy Berwanger and Rick Venham, Jr. sat poised on the point for the drop of the green. Both men throttled up for the start of the competitive modified feature. Just two laps into the event, Dusty Boley and Jarrod Willis tangled, leaving Willis with a flat tire.
Berwanger led the next eleven circuits before a hard-charging Jess Hartman put a heroic slide job on him for the lead on lap 12. Berwanger rode Hartman's tail to lap nineteen when the caution waved again, leaving a shootout to the finish.
Roy Roush and Kyle Bond had moved up the ladder with Roush taking third ahead of Venham and Mike McPherson. Venham, McPherson, and Conrad all fought hard for position back in the pack with young Kyle Bond making a solid top ten run.
Hartman held on for the win. Rounding out the top ten were Jess Hartman, Jeremy Berwanger, Roy Roush, Rick Venham, Mike McPherson, Vince Conrad, Kyle Bond, Doug Henry, Shane Roush, and Dusty Boley. Dusty Boley was the race hard charger, up from 17th to tenth.
Next Friday, April 20 Skyline will be back in action with another round of exciting AMRA Modifieds and Late Models and OVSCA sprint cars. For further information please visit << www.skylinespeedway.net >> or call 304-539-4410 or the track phone at 740-662-4111.
