How Far Is Baileyton Tn From Bristol Motor Speedway? [Ultimate Guide!]

If you’re reading this it probably means you’re either a Bristol fan or a lover of NASCAR. You might also be both! We’re not going to judge you, we love Jesus too.

If you’re not familiar enough with the location of NASCAR’s biggest race, the place is known for its roughhousing and big personalities. Started in 1899, today’s races at Bristol Motor Speedway are officially part of the Coca-Cola 600. The track is a bit of a schlep to get to, about an hour and a half from Atlanta. If you’ve never been there we recommend you visit their website to get a glimpse of what to expect.

The Track

Arguably the most famous half-mile racetrack in the country, Bristol Motor Speedway is a lot more than just a place to watch automobiles go fast. The construction of the track started back in the 50s and was finished in the 60s, giving it a bit of a retro feel. The track is surrounded by forest which adds to the mystical atmosphere of the place.

The asphalt is definitely vintage and much more expensive than average street surfaces. If you want to truly feel like you’re racing on an airplane runway, drive or walk the 1.86 miles around the track. For years the straightaways were the domain of brave drivers and fast horses. These days it’s mostly about who has the best pit crews and which car can out-brake the other.

There are several distinctive turns and the entire track is banked slightly uphill. The unique design makes the place feel more like a road rally than a car race. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, you can buy a 50-piece chocolate cake at the track’s food stands. And, if you’re a fan of the Grateful Dead, you can even take a walk to nearby Barfields Bridge and listen to music while waiting for the race to begin.

The Teams And The Cars

Bristol is most famous for its role in bringing NASCAR into being. The track was originally built with just 500 seating spaces and a circumference of just about a mile. That first ever race was won by Barney Oldfield with a modified Ford. The winning cars were known for having long noses and long tail-lights. These days the track is home to the elite of NASCAR. As well as housing the largest stadium-style seating facility in North America, it also has a 6,500-seat museum which you could visit before the start of the race.

The most recent Grand Prix of Italy was won here by Sebastian Vettel in just under 5 hours. For any motorsport junkies visiting the area it’s definitely worth a trip to see exactly how a Vettel victory at a Grands Prix feels.

Practice for the Coca-Cola 600 begins at 8:00 am on Friday and the race starts at 12:00 pm on Sunday. Detailed information about the venue is available on the official website. If you want to follow the action online, check out Twitter for live updates.

One of the best things about the hotel is that it’s right next to the airport, so if you want to grab a bite before your flight leaves, you can. The hotel also provides a shuttle service to bring you to the track for free or at reduced rates.

Those visiting the area for the Grand Prix will be in the center of the city’s nightlife as the track is within walking distance of several bars and restaurants.
