How Far Is Citrus County Speedway? [Facts!]

The grand opening of Citrus County Speedway is just around the corner! The new 4/3.8-mile paved speedway opens its doors to the public on September 14th and 15th. It’s been a long time coming, but the wait is finally over for motorsports fans in the Tampa Bay area. The new speedway, which was built entirely by volunteers and drivers from the Florida Panthers, promises to be the best one night race of the year. It’s also a good chance to get a last ride on a Harley before it’s retired in October, so be sure to mark those dates on your calendar.

What Is Citrus County Speedway?

Citrus County Speedway is a 1.9-mile dirt track located just outside of Clermont in the beautiful hills of Florida. The track has been a popular spot for locals since it opened in 1994, but it wasn’t until 2011 that it really started to grow in stature. That’s when the Florida Panthers, the NHL affiliate of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, decided to sponsor a 1-mile dirt track at the back of their complex for cars, motorcycles, and most importantly – karts! The team saw the potential in the area and decided to give it a try, and boy, did they ever! The team partnered with the Manatee County Regional Planning and the Manatee County Sports Authority to create the brand-new 1.9-mile track – which will be the longest-running sports car racing series in the state of Florida in the #10 car (Sprint cars were used in the original NASL days).

The Manatee Sports Authority and the Manatee County Planning Commission worked hard to make sure the track was built to the highest standards, incorporating all the amenities fans have come to expect from a modern-day NASCAR track. The track has been expanded three times since it first opened, and each iteration has brought with it new amenities and improvements. The most recent addition is a state-of-the-art light tower that was built specifically for the NASCAR race. It holds up to 12 high-resolution cameras that will broadcast the action live on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook.
