Last year, a new track opened in Homestead, Florida, bringing a new generation of motorsport fans to the area. The track, Homestead Miami Speedway, is home to the Florida Indycar Series and is set to become the new center of motor sports in South Florida.
The 1.25-mile tri-oval is considered to be one of the best short tracks in the country, and with the right setup, anything is possible. We took the opportunity to ask the drivers some questions about the track and their experiences so far.
What Is The Surface Like There?
The surface is quite different from what I’m used to, as we have a lot of runoff areas on it. When I first arrived in Florida, I felt like I was driving on a skating rink. It’s quite challenging because the cars slide a lot and you have to be careful not to hit any of the walls. On the other hand, this also makes it a lot of fun. Overall, it’s a great surface and a real challenge for the drivers and the teams. It also forces you to make better, more precise passes since there are no walls to push off of. It’s a real mix of howling wind and dry heat, which creates an interesting combination.
What Is The Racing Like There?
I really like the racing there. It’s a pretty big change from what we have in Europe, where we have mostly high banks and slow corners. Here, the racing is mostly middle-rear grip and long straights. There’s a lot of passing going on, and the race can sometimes be won by a good passing strategy rather than just driving faster than the other guy. The racing is excellent and the people are extremely nice as well. It really feels like a breath of fresh air and a change of pace to be out there on the track. Unfortunately, we have to wait until next year for the Indycar Series to start so we have less than a month to enjoy these sensations. But when the racing does start, I’m definitely going to be there to witness it. It’s too good not to be part of.
How Is The Track Fits For The Weather?
The track is definitely going to be good for our weather. The wind blowing in from the ocean is usually steady and constant, making it perfect for all types of karting. But even for cars, the track provides lots of grip since the walls are wide and there’s not many bumps or changes in elevation. In the winter, the temperature is similar to that of a warm spring afternoon, which should make for some very interesting racing. It truly is a win-win situation. Hopefully, we’ll see some wet weather someday soon so that we can have a real challenge on our hands. But for now, it’s great for what it is: a sunny-yet-cool track that’s perfect for motor sports.
How Is The Track Organized For Racing?
The track is in great condition and it really looks like a race track. There are some minor changes that can be made to make it a bit safer and more convenient for the drivers, but for the most part, everything is there. The organizers did a great job putting this track together and making it look exactly like a race track. We just have to wait for the next race to start so that we can put it through its paces.
How Is The Track Fitted For TV?
The track is wide enough that the TVs can actually be accommodated pretty well. They aren’t showing the whole thing on TV since there isn’t enough space for that, but the coverage is excellent and the picture is crystal clear. When they do show the whole track on TV, it looks great and you can really see all the details. It’s like being there in person, but without all the wind and the noise canceling out the experience a little bit. Still, it’s not ideal if you really want to experience the whole thing. Overall, it’s a good fit for TV since it offers an excellent picture and a lot of excitement. This is going to be a real highlight of the upcoming racing season. When the track opens up, we’re going to be doing a lot more passing than usual because of the lack of walls or obstructions. It should make for some great highlights on TV.
How Is The Grandstands At The Track?
The grandstands are in great condition, as well. We were able to get a good look at them last year during practice and qualifying. Even then, it was hard to tell where the stands ended and the track began. There’s a lot of space available and the stands have good sight lines for everyone. It’s going to be exciting to see how much more room they have now that the track is completely renovated and fenced off. When the track opens up next month, the stands are going to look as great as ever.
Is There Enough Parking At The Track?
The parking is easy to find and there’s actually a lot of it. You’ll find empty spaces along the fence line and even some spots along the road. You can’t really find a bad spot unless you go during rush hour or on a Saturday. But other than that, the spaces are plenty and it’s rarely ever crowded. Even when the track does get busy during the day, people find ways to move around and still find a spot. Overall, there’s a lot of parking at Homestead Miami Speedway and it’s great for a day of racing.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is located in Speedway, Indiana, about an hour away from Homestead. It is the oldest motorsport race track in America and has been the site of many memorable moments. The track opened in 1895 and has been the home of some of the greatest racing competitions in American history. This year, we were lucky enough to visit Indianapolis midweek, which offered us an up-close-and-personal look at this magnificent track.
The paddock area, or the area where the cars are assembled before the race, is already a breathtaking scene. Hundreds of mechanics and engineers from all over the world come together to form a sprawling garage area. This year is the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 and this year’s edition is set to be the biggest and most exciting race ever. It really is an occasion to celebrate as this is one of the greatest racing venues in the entire world. The paddock area has been the setting for many iconic images, and it’s well worth a trip even for non-racing fans. It doesn’t get any more American than the Indianapolis 500. The whole place is incredible.
How Is The Ambiance At The Track?
The ambiance at the track is electric. The wind whipping through the grandstands creates a sound similar to the buzzing of a beehive, while the spectators create an incredible atmosphere. The track has a bit of an old-school charm to it, which many people seem to love. Even now, just a few days before the race, the atmosphere is infectious. Everyone you meet is excited about the upcoming race and the opportunity to be there. It’s easy to see why, as not only is the track incredible, but the whole city of Indianapolis seems to embrace motorsport.
You can’t put into words just how much fun it is to be at a motorsport venue, but it really is something special. You get the feeling that everyone there is sharing the same excitement, which makes you that little bit closer to sharing in the moment. It’s an incredible feeling and one that you’ll want to get back as soon as possible.
My personal favorite part about this track is how the wind interacts with the grandstands. The wind from outside really is something else and it makes for some incredible shows when the stands are filled with fans singing along to the music or cheering as the cars go by. It’s something you’ll definitely want to see and experience.
How Is The Track Surrounded By Surfing Beaches?
Surfing beaches are located on either side of the track and it’s hard to walk along the track without hitting sand. When the track was originally built, the area was a barren wasteland with some patches of grass. But nature has taken its toll on the track and it has become surrounded by acres of thick, white sand. It’s an incredible sight to behold and it really does put the track into perspective. You realize that it’s not just a racetrack, but a place that you’re driving along with your family and friends, surrounded by beautiful beaches and green ocean.
