How Many Fans At Bristol Motor Speedway? [Ultimate Guide!]

This may be difficult to believe, but you actually have to go to a track to see thousands – sometimes millions – of fans in one place. That place is usually referred to as a “stadium,” and it usually has one of two names: a baseball field or a football field. Depending on where you are watching the game, you may see fans jumping up and down on the different sides of the field, waving their towels or wearing orange and brown attire depending on their favorite team or if it’s a rivalry game.

You may have heard of another place in Tennessee that has a similar atmosphere. It’s called “Nashville,” and it’s almost like going to another country during Mardi Gras. People there really love their music, and they have the largest population of guitar fans in the world. I’m not saying that Bristol is like this – far from it – but it is one of the largest cities in the area, and since it’s the home of one of the most popular NASCAR tracks, there’s always a lot of interest there. For those of you who have never been, here’s a guide to what you should know and expect once you arrive.

Local Attitude

If you’ve ever been to Bristol, you know that the locals can be pretty friendly. They’re not the most sophisticated people in the world, but it’s a small town vibe, and the residents seem to genuinely like each other. That’s not to say that there aren’t a lot of stereotypes out there – I mean, yes, there are a lot of rednecks, and they all love their NASCAR – but it’s a small minority that you have to look out for. In general, though, you’ll find people there that will go out of their way to help you out.

Food

Since I said that Nashville is like going to another country during Mardi Gras, you may be wondering what the food options are there. Well, you may be surprised to learn that they are actually pretty good. You may prefer country music to traditional rock, but there’s a lot more to this city than you’d think. Plus, it’s always winter there, so you’ll have the option of either eating hot food or eating cold food – your choice. Some of the places there are even vegan-friendly, which is great if you’re one of those individuals who follows a plant-based diet. With all these options, you’ll have a hard time deciding what to eat. Just make sure you’re aware that not all the restaurants there are created equal, and you may have to look a little bit harder for a good one than you would in a smaller town.

Transportation

Bristol is located south of Nashville, and it’s completely accessible by car. If you’ve ever been there, you know that there isn’t a lot of public transportation available, so you’ll mostly have to rely on your car. The good news is that the cost of car insurance is much lower there than in the capital city. Don’t believe me? Look it up. In addition to this, traffic jams are practically non-existent, so you may find yourself rarely if ever needing to use public transportation. Even in the city, you’ll only need to use it occasionally to get to places that aren’t easily accessible by car. The bad news is that, depending on where you’re going, it may be difficult to find parking spaces, especially on game days. If you’ve ever been to a Bristol game, you know how important it is to find a parking space, and it can be difficult to find one close to the venue. There is, however, a large parking lot located across the street from the hotel where the event is being held, which is probably where you’ll want to go. Just make sure you’re aware of how crowded the lot gets, especially on game days. If you go during the week, you may find it almost impossible to find a spot. Weekends are usually pretty quiet, though – the lot is less crowded, and it’s usually not too hot or cold, so you may be able to find a spot anywhere. There is, however, one thing you should avoid – don’t go to Bristol during an ice storm. Due to the cold weather, the ice can accumulate on the roads, making it dangerous to drive on. Sometimes it’s better to take a walk than try to drive on an icy road. Just make sure you’re aware of any seasonal weather changes before you leave.

Atmosphere

If you’re a fan of country music, you may be in for a bit of a culture shock in Bristol. The atmosphere there is completely different from that of a traditional rock concert. There are certainly a lot of similarities – you’ll hear a lot of guitar riffs, and the singers will be wearing a lot of colorful outfits – but it’s more like going to a southern barbecue. You may find it difficult to explain, but once you’re there and feel that country vibe, you’ll understand what I mean. It’s not that Bristol fans are rude or unfriendly – they’re just different and like their music loud. It can be a little overwhelming at first, but you’ll get used to it. Once you do, you may find it quite enjoyable.

Attendance

This is the part that may surprise you most, but you actually have to go to a track to see thousands – sometimes millions – of fans in one place. I don’t know why it should, but once you’ve been there, you’ll understand what I mean. There aren’t that many places in the U.S. where you can find that many people interested in the same thing, so when you do, it’s quite an impressive sight. The question is, will you go? The answer is probably yes, but it depends on where you’re going and what time of year it is. If it’s during the week, it may not be that interesting of an experience, but on game days, it can be quite the spectacle. Just remember, some of the places there aren’t that comfortable with wheelchair users, so if you have one, take this into consideration.

Climate

It’s pretty difficult to explain the climate of Bristol, Tennessee. The air feels different, and you’ll find that it rarely gets as cold as you may be used to in the North. The temperatures may seem a little unpredictable but, for the most part, are pretty mild. The summers are hot and humid, and the winters are damp and chilly. It’s practically impossible to know what kind of clothing to bring – is it cold or hot? You’ll just have to find out and prepare yourself accordingly.

As for the geography, you may be wondering how high the temperatures go. The answer is that they rise as high as the elevation of the location you’re in. If you’re at sea level, the temperature will be relatively mild, but if you’re at a higher elevation, like the mountains, the temperatures will be much more extreme. Take that into consideration if you’re planning on visiting in the summertime or if you have an excessive heating option on your air conditioner. This is one place where it’s absolutely essential that you’re prepared for all weather conditions – it never stops raining or snowing, and you’ll always be caught in the middle. The locals certainly aren’t complaining, though. They love their winters, and they look forward to the snowfall and the cold weather. It allows them to stay inside and play in the snow, so they definitely benefit from all the precipitation. As for the humidity, you’ll have to experience it to truly understand what I’m talking about. It’s practically non-existent in the air, so you won’t need an air conditioner. Plus, the humidity allows you to breathe without feeling like you’re suffocating. This is one place where an electric fan comes in really handy – it keeps things cool and makes the air feel quite refreshing. Just remember to recharge your fan frequently, and don’t leave it running while you’re asleep. This may lead to some uncomfortable situations, especially if there are children or animals around. You may also end up overheating if this occurs frequently, so make sure you’re aware of this as well.
