How Much Is Two Coke Bottles A Speedway? [Fact Checked!]

A couple of months back, I wrote an article for the New York Times about the growing number of kids’ clothing brands that take an interest in motor sports. The reason behind this trend? Climate change. A lot of kids’ clothing brands see the automobile as a key part of their future, since it’s a vehicle that their children will grow up breathing and living in. This mindset is what inspired the article “Climate Change and the Future of Kids’ Fashion.”

Since the piece was published, I’ve been asked many times how much is two coke bottles at a U.S. racing venue. Turns out, it’s not quite as easy as you’d think. There are different rates for different racetracks, so before you throw away your free drink tickets, you’ll need to find out where you’re going. Here’s how much two coke bottles are worth at the following U.S. racetracks:

New York

In New York, two coke bottles are worth about $2.65 each at the most popular tracks like Monticello and Watkins Glen. A bottle at Saratoga is just $2.25, and at other tracks, such as Delaware, they’re only worth a 50 cents. In total, that’s $7.15 per two-bottle dinner at the top New York state tracks. Not bad for a couple of drinks that you’re legally allowed to have while you’re there, right?

Indianapolis

At Indy, a couple of coke bottles go for about $2.60 each and at one of the smaller tracks, such as Harding, they go for $2.30. You can’t find a more romantic place than California, where your dollar will go as far as it will at the movies. On that note, here’s a fun fact: In Los Angeles, one cup of coffee is equivalent to about $3.50. You might want to invest in a travel mug for the road, friends.

San Francisco

In San Francisco, a Coke is a little more expensive. At the top venues, you’re looking at about $2.75 per two-bottle dinner. At the smaller venues, such as Laguna and Foster, they go for $2.60 and $2.70 respectively. In the middle, you have places like Candlestick Park, which is pricey, or Kezar Stadium, which is pretty cheap, for SF Giants baseball games. In total, that’s $7.25 per two-bottle dinner at the top San Francisco venues. Again, you can’t miss here. Everything is expensive. A pizza pie will set you back about $5 at the least, and a ride on an elevator will cost you a dollar. It all adds up.

If you’re looking for a quiet night out, consider anywhere else. This city loves to have fun, and the better the team, the better the party. In the Windy City, one cup of coffee is about $3.35. On that note, here’s a fun fact: In Houston, one cup of coffee is about $3.50. You can’t beat Texas coffee, either. It’s supposed to be great. Unfortunately, Houston has the second-worst traffic in America. It’s hard to enjoy a coffee when you’re stuck in traffic. Consider arriving early, before the crowds come in, or leaving late, when the traffic dies down. You’ll have a better time, that’s for sure.
