The world’s most popular sport – motorsport – is back! Stadiums are filling up, and social media channels like YouTube and Twitter are buzzing with excitement about the upcoming summer races. But if you’re looking for the next big break, you might want to think about applying for a job at Speedway Ltd. Our drivers have been spotted all over the world, from the Indy 500 to the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Our success in global motorsport has made us one of the most trusted names in sports recruitment. Find out more about why you should consider applying for a job with us.
History
Back in the 1950s, if you wanted to become a professional race driver, you had to apply to a specific track and hope that they had an opening for a car to drive. That is, of course, if you met the requirements, which usually included having a good personality and being able to survive in a high-stress environment. The days of applying to multiple tracks and hoping that your application went unclaimed are over. Nowadays, with the advancement of computer technology, every track and team in the world is in possession of a recruitment database – or simply recruitment software – which makes the application process much easier. Additionally, the cost of living in a racing car is significantly cheaper than living in a hotel room (room taxes and extra fees apply of course). This is why so many people are looking to secure a job in motorsport – the ultimate lifestyle choice!
Even though the application process has become a lot easier, securing a job in motorsport is still not easy. The competition is intense, and there are usually only a few vacancies available for the season (which is either winter or summer in the Southern Hemisphere, and either winter or summer in the Northern Hemisphere). Trying to secure a job in motorsport is like trying to get into the popularity contest at school – it is extremely unlikely that you will succeed if you don’t belong to the cool group. This is why you will find many professional drivers who are really lacking in self-confidence, trying to hide their insecurities behind a smile – it is extremely unlikely that they will get the job if they don’t fit the profile of the typical race driver (i.e. confident, good looks, popularity). It is also worth mentioning that finding sponsors to support your career is also a lot harder than you would think – even though there are a few big names in motorsport, most teams still have to find the means to support themselves.
