The company is justifiably famous for its creativity and innovation, and never more so than in the realm of video games. I’m constantly inspired by their works, and wanted to bring a little bit of that magic into my own digital world. The following will discuss how to find and play Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the latest additions to the Disney Infinity series. It will also cover some of the game’s nuances and differences from the previous entries in the franchise.
The Evolution of Disney Infinity
It has been four years since the first installment of Disney Infinity was released to general retail in February 2014. The game has since become immensely popular, with more than 300 million copies sold worldwide as of March 2018.
The game offers a variety of approaches to play, from solitary adventure to player co-op. Different game modes (ranging from story to classic multiplayer) offer a different challenge. While the base game is free, the additional content (such as toys, figures, and playsets) can be purchased as microtransactions within the game.
One of the distinguishing features of Disney Infinity is its unique approach to character customization. Instead of just selecting a character and letting the game generate his or her avatar, players are encouraged to personalize their characters by mixing and matching different body parts from a variety of Disney and Pixar characters. This gives the game a level of flexibility comparable to that of the traditional LEGO Batman and DC Comics games. Of course, with the benefit of modern technology, the degree of innovation and creativity that went into Disney Infinity is unparalleled.
Omega Ruby And Alpha Sapphire
The most recent installment in the Disney Infinity series is Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Announced at the 2017 D23 Expo, the titular gems are the result of a long collaboration between Disney and Pokémon Co-founder and CEO Satoshi Tajiri. The game was officially released on October 25, 2017.
Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire feature a host of new gameplay mechanics and exciting additions to the franchise. The most prominent of these are:
- Matching – Similar to how Pikkachu works in Pokémon Go, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire allow players to battle against each other via a series of competitive, real-time matches. Matches end in a tie, and players earn points based on how many of their balloons they’ve deflated.
- Alliance Building – One of the hallmarks of the original Marvel vs. Capcom games is the possibility to form temporary, competitive teams with other players via the “Alliance” system. The functionality is back, and now players can team up with their friends, family, and even complete strangers to take on the game’s numerous enemies. Teamwork is essential, as the goal is to knock out as many opponents as possible before the time runs out.
- Evolution – It is possible to “evolve” a character’s strategy and tactics over time, as they gain experience through use. For instance, Ironman’s “Mark VI” armor becomes more resistant to damage as he continues to “tank” for his teammates. In addition to providing a more challenging experience, this feature also encourages players to explore and experiment with different combinations of strategies.
- Oberon’s Quest – Players that have the special software version (1.0.7 or later) can take on an adventure with the Disney and Pixar animator, using his designs as platforms, puzzles, and even boss fights against him. While exciting and rewarding, playing as the incredibly creative and resourceful Oberon is not without its risks. If players die under certain circumstances, they’ll lose all the game progress they made prior to that point. Fortunately, the game’s difficulty is variable, and can be changed by the player via a skill level setting. So even if you die a few times, you’ll discover that dying isn’t as bad as it seems.
These games are perfect for kids (and even some adults) who love video games and superheroes. The titles’ unique mechanics (especially the Matching feature), colorful aesthetic, and humorous, child-friendly narrative should draw in even the most reluctant of players. With the right blend of creativity and strategy, it’s possible to emerge victorious from our latest clash with evil. Good luck, and have fun!
