Canyon Speedway is one of the most iconic race tracks in the UK. The 3.9km circuit, which mostly consists of tight, twisty, and sometimes muddy corners, has a 90-degree bend that takes you into the famous Melling Orb. If you’ve never been there, then here’s your chance to explore one of the most beautiful parts of the country – the rolling hills, the quintessential English countryside, and the vibrant city of York.
It’s no secret that York is one of the most important cities in the UK, especially in relation to motorsport. The race track is located in the middle of the city, and every year, thousands of motorsport fans travel from near and far to see the famed vehicles race. This article will advise you on how to get Orb near Canyon Speedway so that you can take in the atmosphere and have your picture taken with one of the many beautiful racing machines that line the streets there in the summer!
By Car
You can reach the race track by car. Follow the M6 Motorway south and take the first exit onto the A59, which leads directly to York. Follow the A59 for a little while until you reach the city centre. Here you need to take a right and follow the road towards the Mello Orb. The track is situated on the right-hand side, about a 10-minute drive from the centre of York.
If you’ve never been there, or even if you have, then there’s something special about heading there by car. You get the full experience of driving on British roads, seeing iconic English landscapes, and being surrounded by acres of green fields. The trip is made even more special by knowing that some of the world’s top racing drivers have been there before you. It’s a destination that every motorsport fan should experience at least once in their life!
By Train
If you’d rather travel by train, then you can get a bus or taxi straight to the race track. There is an hourly service between York Junction and Leeds, which stops at pretty much every station en route. If you’re driving to the race track from Leeds, then you may as well stay the night in York before setting off early in the morning. This will give you time to get to the venue, warm up the engine, and get ready for the big day ahead.
By Air
If you’re flying to Yorkshire, then you can either rent a car or take the train or bus. There is also an airport in Leeds, which receives flights from all over the UK and Europe. If you’re driving to the airport, then you should arrive there 10 minutes before your flight. You may even want to take a taxi at the end, as the airport is a little out of the centre of the city. The advantage of arriving early is that you get a decent parking space, which is usually not the case at the end of a long flight.
To get to the airport from the city, take the M6 north for a little while until you reach the A61, which takes you into Leeds. At the airport, you can either hire a vehicle or take the bus or taxi to the race track. Once there, you can park close to the entrance and walk to the grandstand. If you’re driving, then take the taxi to the nearby garage to get your car parked.
By Boat
There is also the option of getting to the race track by boat. The historic city of York is situated on the River York, and there are several marinas there where you can moor your boat and take a leisurely cruise around the water. You can’t miss the city’s iconic red-clay cliffs, as they jut dramatically out of the water for hundreds of metres. This area is known as the Marina, and it’s a stunning destination for walkers, cyclists, and boat enthusiasts.
Getting Orb near the speedway should be on everyone’s bucket list. Whether you’re a motorsport fan or not, the atmosphere and energy on the day of the race are unrivalled.
