Located in the heart of Ohio between Cleveland and Toledo, Brownstown Speedway is home to some of the most popular car racing events in the world. Every Sunday night, fans can experience the thrill of a NASCAR race as drivers like Martin Truex, Jr., Jeff Gordon, and others battle it out on the track. Every week, the speedway also hosts some of the most popular off-road racing events in the country. Racers like Ken Block, Adam Carolla, and many more battle it out on the dusty, muddy track with up to 40-thousand spectators in attendance every week. If you’re visiting or live in the area, then you know what I’m talking about. You might even be a fan of the track and have attended one of its races.
Visit The Speedway
One of the best things you can do while visiting or living in Northeast Ohio is to visit the Brownstown Speedway. Even if you’re not into cars or motorsports, it’s worth the trip just to stand on the track and watch the race cars go by. For more information on the schedule of upcoming events, check the website or call the speedway office. The same information is also available at the Visitors’ Center.
Take In A Baseball Game
Another great way to spend an afternoon or evening in the area is to attend a minor-league baseball game at Progressive Field. The Cleveland Indians play here each Saturday afternoon, drawing thousands of fans. You might even get to see one of the famous Cleveland Browns play in person. The stadium is completely enclosed, so even if it’s a little chilly, you’ll be able to enjoy the game safely. You can also take in an NHL game at the arena, if you’re feeling particularly adventurous. The list of local sporting events and concerts is too long to mention here, so you can find out more at the Brownstown Speedway website.
Get A Tee Shirt
If you ever attended one of the races at the speedway or any of its affiliated events, then you know exactly what I’m talking about. Every race weekend, the fans of the track and their families flood the streets surrounding the speedway. This is when you need to be prepared for the intense heat and strong winds that come with the summertime in Ohio. The police even close some streets to traffic during the event, so even if you’re not a fan of cars, you’ll have a good time anyway. To commemorate the occasion, the track sponsors a limited edition Tee shirt with a special design for the event.
Take In A Concert
If you live in or around Northeast Ohio and are a music fan, then you know what I’m talking about. Every summer, the area is filled with concerts and festivals. There’s something going on every night of the week, just waiting to be attended. One of the best things about the area is the opportunity to see your favorite band live. You can find out more about upcoming concerts and festivals at the Brownstown speedway website.
Take A Biking Adventure
Located in the scenic Hocking Hills, near Mount Vernon, is a place I think everyone should visit. The North Country bike route, which follows the Ohio River, is a 243-mile long stretch of road that takes you from Cleveland to its source, Lake Erie. Along the way, you’ll travel through some of the most beautiful forests and along the Ohio River. The whole route is completely flat, making it perfect for biking. The distance between Cleveland and Toledo is only about 120 miles, so spending a night or two in one of the area’s charming bed and breakfasts is a great way to see more of the state.
Try Out Some Of The Area’s Eateries
Another great thing about traveling to or living in the area is the abundance of great eateries. It’s hard to get a dish that you haven’t tried before, but that’s part of the fun. The area is filled with restaurants and cafes, serving all kinds of food, from authentic Italian eateries to Chinese food restaurants and barbeques. If you’re not sure where to eat, then use an online restaurant finder to help you find the best local eatery for you.
The options for food-related travel are endless in the area. You could start your day with a leisurely bike ride along the National Road, followed by a picnic lunch at one of the state’s many public parks. You could visit the Speed Museum, located in the center of town, where you can see automobiles from the 1800s to the present day. Or, if you’re feeling extra adventurous, you could try out some of the local eateries in the area. You’ll never know what culinary delights the area has to offer until you try it out for yourself.
