The Old Race Track
It’s been a while since you were last there, but don’t forget – the old race track. It hasn’t changed a bit. On the weekends, you can still find the speedway open and bustling with life. On race week, it’s like a ghost town. There aren’t many cars there, and those that are seem to drive slowly. Maybe it’s because everyone and their mother is trying to get a peek at the famous horses. Or maybe it’s because they fear an accident if they hurry.
The horses are still there, of course. Since 1947, the speedway has been home to the world-class Amish Stampede. On any given Saturday, you could look out and see at least five or six of the beautiful creatures pacing in their stalls. Some may be calm and laid back, but you can always tell who’s in a hurry to get to the gate. The jockey on the outside in the saddle is usually the one holding the reins and giving the command to go. All the while, the horse’s hooves are kicking up dirt and dust as they run around their paddock. It’s quite the scene, and it’s all thanks to the Amish, who still return every year to share this special moment with their friends and family.
New Race Track
With all the changes taking place in today’s society, it’s no wonder the speedway is no longer the hub of action it once was. The good thing is that they kept the old track and turned it into a brand new race track. The problem is that they built it on the opposite end of the field. Instead of being next to the action, you find yourself far away from the entertainment.
A trip to the new speedway takes you away from the hustle and bustle of the world. Instead of watching cars go by, you have to concentrate on watching the white lines on the track. It’s more of a hike to the grandstand than it is to your car. On the other hand, the view from the terrace is something else entirely. You can’t beat being able to watch the sunset while listening to the roar of engines. You can’t help but feel like you’re a part of the action, even when you’re a spectator.
Another downside to the new speedway is that the paddock space is so tiny. It’s an outdoor space, so there’s nowhere to store your cars. If you have a full garage, you’ll have to park them on the street. But at least you have the option to walk there. It’s a 30-minute walk to the closest restaurant, and it makes the trip less of a chore. Plus, you’re closer to the bathroom, too. The new and the old race tracks are two very different places. You’ll love it or you’ll hate it, but for the best, don’t do either. The old track is best left alone, as much as you might miss it.
There are pros and cons to both options, but the choice is easy. Do you want to be near the action or do you want to be farther away from it? If you want to be closer to the action, then the old track is where you should be. If you want to be farther away from it, then the new track is the one for you. Just decide fast, because the choice won’t be available forever.
Speaking of choices, the new speedway allows you a lot of customization when it comes to seating. If you have a specific area you want to sit in, then the library is a great option. You can also put your feet up on the rail and rest your legs. It’s a beautiful day when you can park under the sun and shade of a tree. You might even get a visit from a blue jay or two. If you have a picnic spot in mind, then the picnic area at the new speedway is the place to be. You’ll have plenty of space for a grills, and the view isn’t bad either.
Are There Entertainment Options At The Speedway?
The Amish have a thing for horses. So do movie stars. That’s why you often see them paired together at a charity event or a social gathering. There are several options for entertainment at the speedway. Behind the scenes tours are a great way to get an inside look at what goes on during a horse race. You’ll be able to see how the horses are prepared for the big race and witness the jockeys in action.
The best way to enjoy a horse race, however, is from the inside. You can get a seat in the grandstand and watch the race in all its glory. Since the 1960s, the practice of bringing a radio to a horse race has been around. It’s the jockeys’ best friend. They can listen to the commentary while keeping an eye on the action. It’s an amazing sight to see the same jockey ride in the same race twice. Many people call this “cheating,” but it’s actually a way of life. The jockeys control the race, and the owners and spectators just follow along. It’s what’s known as a “silent race.” In other words, the only sound you’ll hear will be the whoosh of wind as the horses fly by and the pounding of hooves on the track.
Another option is to go for a walk. There are many famous horse trails walking through the countryside. You can find yourself in the middle of nowhere, but at least you’ll have your phone. If you’re lucky, you’ll even catch a glimpse of a beautiful sunset and feel like you’re in heaven. It’s breathtaking to see a horse’s neck stretched out over its back as it gallops across the plains. You can’t help but feel a connection with these magnificent animals. It’s like an out-of-body experience. You’re so focused on following their strides, you don’t realize you’re actually walking until you reach your destination. It’s not often you get to do something like that, especially since it’s usually forbidden to touch or interfere with a horse. You have to make the most of the opportunity when it presents itself. It’s worth the risk. These animals are still living creatures, and you don’t want to deprive them of any pleasure in their lives. Walking is good for both you and the horse. It gets their muscles moving, and it clears their minds, too. The longer you walk, the more relaxed they will get, and the more chances you have to interact with them.
How About Ice Cream?
You might be surprised to learn that the Amish aren’t just about horses. They love their ice cream, too. On hot summer nights, you can find them outside their homes, sitting on plastic chairs and eating ice cream. It’s their way of cooling off on a sweltering day. Is It Worth Visiting?

It’s not that there’s anything wrong with the artsy type, but maybe they’re better off staying at home. They can enjoy their aquarium and visit the horse track during the week. It’s up to you.
