You’re at the airport, about to board the plane to your holiday destination. The travel agent hands you a trolley with your sports shoes and swimwear, along with your bikini, and you think to yourself, ‘Thank goodness that’s over’.
But there’s more. As you check in, the agent hands you a drink cart. ‘Would you like a Red or White Wine, or Soda?’, she asks. You glance at the sign on the wall and notice that the flight is a couple of hours early. Suddenly, the transit time from the gate to the plane doesn’t seem that long.
After you’ve sat down in your seat and fastened your seatbelt, the flight attendant comes by and offers you the choice of a pre-flight drink. You look at the sign again – this time noticing that the flight is delayed by thirty minutes. So much for getting away quickly. But now there’s plenty of time to think about your holiday and day at the beach. The wine and soda seem appealing, but then you remember that you’re not supposed to eat or drink anything while on the flight. What will the other passengers think? Will they think you’re an airhead, or crazier than they thought?
The decision isn’t easy. You’ve never been a big fan of air travel, and now you’re about to be on a redeye, where the air is thick and feels like it lasts forever. But then you think of all the wonderful vacations you’ve taken in the past, where the only requirement was to show up at the airport on time. You decide to chance it, as long as nobody notices. Maybe they’ll serve food during the flight, and then you can have some wine and a cheese board. Nobody would think the worse of you.
You arrive at your destination and go through customs. You’re feeling a little restless, not sure what to do with yourself, so you decide to go to the nearest drug store and get some caffeine. You want a cup of coffee to get rid of that queasy feeling. As you’re looking for the nearest coffee shop, you pass a restaurant and notice that the walls are lined with framed magazine covers. It would be great to eat there, you think, maybe get a coffee, and then catch a ride to your hotel. You’re daydreaming, when a man behind you clears his throat. You turn around and realize that you’ve been chatting away with no one near you. He introduces himself and starts talking about the menu. To make conversation, you ask about the photos on the menu. Suddenly you feel a tap on your shoulder. It’s the man from behind you, asking if you’re feeling all right. You tell him you’re fine, but he insists that you come with him to the security office, where you can speak to a manager. You shrug it off and try to resume your previous conversation, but he keeps making requests for the manager. You feel crowded, as there are other people waiting to enter the office. And then you realize that this man is trying to keep an eye on you, and that makes you uneasy. He’s not part of the security detail, and you can tell that he’s irritated that you won’t go with him to the manager’s office. Maybe he’s part of the surveillance detail and suspects you of carrying illegal substances. You wonder how you’d feel if this was England and you hadn’t reported the crime or infraction yet. Wouldn’t the police be questioning you? You decide that you don’t want to find out – not today, not when you’re in a holiday mood – so you agree to go with him to the office. Maybe he’ll let you go, maybe he’ll want to keep you for questioning. Either way, you don’t want to find out right now.
You’re in the security office, waiting for the manager. You pass the time by looking at a magazine, but then you feel eyes on you. Looking around, you notice a man sitting at the desk behind you. You look at the magazine – it’s a women’s fashion magazine, and the man behind you is also ogling it. He must work there, you think, or else he’s watching the security office because he wants to get inside and look at women’s fashion magazines.
The manager comes in and asks you about the cafè. Coffee’s very popular in your country, you say, and then you ask about the drinks available there. The manager informs you that they don’t serve coffee on the flight, but then he sees the look on your face and adds that they do have soda and tea. You feel relieved that there’s something you can drink on the flight, but then you feel guilty about lying to the security officer. What if he tests you for drugs and you don’t have any? What will happen then? You decide that it’s better to risk a few hours in a small airplane than to endanger your health. As soon as you land in your country, you’ll buy a diet cola drink and mix it with milk to avoid any suspicions. You don’t want to take a chance with your health, especially when you’re just getting started as a runner.
The Importance Of Diet
You’ve read about coffee and its effects on humans, both good and bad. Some people love their coffee, and it has been shown to help them lose weight. However, a cup of coffee a day can increase your waistline. You don’t want to become a fatty, but you also don’t want to go into diet mode just yet. One important thing you’ve learned in your studies is the importance of a nutritious diet. You don’t want to sacrifice quality just to lose a few pounds. You want to make sure that your body is prepared to function at its best. It’s all about quality, not quantity. Your diet doesn’t have to be perfect to lose weight; you just need to make sure that you’re not eating too much. If you consume a lot of carbohydrates, you’ll end up with a sugar high, which could cause you to eat more than you should. This can result in diabetes and other diseases. You don’t want to subject your body to that, so instead of eating candy and drinking soda, try eating fruits and vegetables, which are both high in fiber. You’ll feel fuller for a longer period of time, and this will keep you from going back for more. Fruits and vegetables also provide your body with nutrients that will be essential for good health.
Drink Plenty Of Water
It’s never easy deciding what drinks are okay to have while on the go. You’ve got your usual choices of water, soda, or coffee. Of course, you can always get lemonade or orange juice, but then you’re limited to a water-based drink. You try to stay away from alcohol, except when you’re vacationing in Europe, where beer is available at just about every bar and restaurant. If you do decide to drink alcohol, do so in moderation. One or two drinks a day can be good for you. Mixers containing vodka or rum can be found at most bars in Europe, and many drinks contain some form of ethanol that may contribute to DNA damage. You don’t want to give your body any more reasons to deteriorate, so instead of drinking at the bar, go for a walk or catch a bike ride instead.
No Digital Devices On Planes
If you’re reading this on a mobile device, you might want to put it away. Not only is it bad for the environment to constantly produce electronic waste, but it’s also against the rules to bring your device on the plane. You don’t want to get caught with your nose in a book or tablet, so put them in your checked luggage. It’s also advisable to turn your devices off or put them on airplane mode, so they don’t bother the other passengers. If you think that you’ll get some peace and quiet to work or study on your device, then pack it in your carry-on luggage. This way, you’ll be able to enjoy the flight and not have to worry about disturbing the other passengers.
While a cup of coffee is relatively harmless, the effects of constant exposure can be serious. This is especially true if the coffee is brewed with milk and sugar, which can cause your cholesterol to rise and make you more likely to get heart disease. Drinking coffee can also cause you to lose brain cells, which can lead to Alzheimer’s disease. If you’re a coffee lover, then you might want to try drinking less frequently or buying bulk coffee, so you don’t have to worry about the negative effects of regular coffee consumption. Coffee is a delicious and popular beverage in many parts of the world, but if you’re not used to drinking it, then you might not enjoy it if you drink too much. The effects of too much coffee can also be serious, and it’s important to understand the risks before you enjoy this wonderful drink.
