What Bank Altamont Speedway? [Updated!]

You wake up one morning, excited about a new challenge. You open up Twitter and see a tweet from @AltmontSpeedwayabout a 50-lap race that afternoon. Without any other information, you decide to drive to Pennsylvania to watch a local race car team – the Bob Bondurants – compete. After all, how often do you get the opportunity to drive a few hours and see cars go around a track?

Upon arriving at the speedway, you notice a sign with the name “Altamont” on it. You don’t know much about this place, so you look up the address online and discover that it’s in New York. You put the address into your GPS and decide to call it a day when the GPS takes you to a bridge that isn’t built yet.

The next morning, you wake up determined to find out more about this place. You call the speedway and talk to a woman named Shelly who picks up the phone. You tell her you’re a fan of hers and that you want to attend the 50-lap race that afternoon. She tells you that the event has been canceled due to – you guessed it – another snowstorm. The race will be rescheduled for next year, but you don’t want to wait that long to see a NASCAR race. So you ask Shelly if there’s any other sport you could attend instead.

“Of course there is!” She exclaims. “You could always go to the Palace. It’s the home of the Philadelphia Athletics. You’ll love it there. There are lots of fights in the stands, and it gets pretty rowdy, but once the game starts, you’ll forget all about that.”

You didn’t know there were professional baseball teams in Philadelphia before, so that information is brand new to you. Still, the name “Athletics” seems familiar, and you tell Shelly that you’ll think about it.

“OK, then!” she replies. “Just make sure you call me before you make any decisions, OK?”

You hang up the phone and head to the airport. As you’re checking in, you realize that it would be best to get a motel for the night. There’s a good chance you won’t get a good night’s sleep anyway, what with all the noise from outside rattling the windows. But at least you’ll be closer to the baseball field for the next morning’s game. You check in and decide to take a stroll to the room. As you reach the end of the hall, you hear voices coming from inside the room. One of the voices is female, and it seems to be coming from the bathroom. You knock on the door and ask if you could speak to the manager. The man at the door tells you that he’s the manager and invites you to come in.

The bathroom is empty, but you see something that catches your attention. On the mirror, there’s a drawing of a cat. You laugh because it seems like a joke at first, but when you look closer, you see that it’s actually quite good. You go into the room and sit down at the desk. The manager introduces himself as Mr. Dickey and starts to ask you questions about why you’re in Pennsylvania and what brought you to the speedway. You tell him that you heard about the 50-lap race and wanted to attend. He says he hears that a lot and asks you what you’ll be doing while you’re in town. You say that you don’t know yet, but that you’ll be investigating the place. Mr. Dickey thinks it would be best if you stay at the motel for a while and gets you a room on the second floor. He also gives you some badges to wear so you can get into the pit area.

The next morning, you wake up early and head to the airport. You’ve got a flight to New York City at noon, so you arrive at the speedway just before the scheduled departure. You check in and get a look at the schedule. There’s a good chance you’ll be leaving from the airport anyway, so you decide to take a stroll to the room. You reach the end of the hallway and hear voices coming from inside. One of the voices is female and seems to be coming from the bathroom. You knock on the door and ask if you can speak to the manager. The man at the door tells you that he’s the manager and invites you to come in.

As you enter the bathroom, you see a very unique sight. There are no doors on the wall, so it seems as if there’s no division between the bathroom and the bedroom. The bed is unmade, and there’s clothing all over the place. A woman is in the shower. You tell her that you’re a visitor and that you wanted to come in and say hello. She seems surprised that you want to visit her, so you tell her that you would like to become her friend. With that, she lets you in and offers you a towel.

You don’t know much about Bathsheba, but you tell her that you like the sound of her name and that you’ll think about it.

The woman gets out of the shower and starts getting dressed. She notices that you’re looking at her lingerie and asks if you want to try it on. You tell her that you didn’t bring your swimsuit and that you’ll leave bathing suits at the motel. She insists that you try on the lingerie and asks if you’re a virgin. You tell her that you’re not, which is why you’re in Pennsylvania, and she seems satisfied.

You leave the bathroom and sit down at the desk. The woman at the desk gets up and approaches you. She’s wearing an A’s uniform and has a name tag that says “Brianna”. She introduces herself as Brianna Hodge and starts to ask you questions about why you’re in Pennsylvania and what brought you to the speedway. You tell her that you heard about the race and wanted to see a game. She laughs and says that she thinks that’s why she’s in this situation. You check out and tell her you’ll try to attend a game next time you’re in town. She also invites you to the A’s picnic next Friday. You tell her it was good to meet her and that you’ll think about the offer.

You head to the airport and arrive at your destination. You’ve got a 10 am meeting in the city, so you want to catch the early flight. As you’re checking in, you realize that it would be best to get a motel for the night.
