What Is 3232 E Speedway?
To put it simply, the 3232 E Speedway Road is a street in the southern part of Tucson. It runs from the very northwest corner of the city to just north of Green Valley. As the name would imply, this road is closely related to the famous 3232 Speedway. The track, also known as the Tucson International Raceway, sits on top of a mountain, and is one of the premier places for auto racing in the country. Each year, the track hosts the Arizona Sprint Cup, the premier race on the Sprint Cup calendar.
The 3232 E Speedway covers a lot of territory, and provides a great opportunity to get a feel for the entire southern part of the city. This is especially important if you’re visiting from the north, as most of the city’s sights, parks, and restaurants are located here.
Interesting Tidbits
If you go above and beyond the basics such as what county is this in, it’s interesting to learn a few things about the road. For example, did you know that the road is completely closed to cars during the off-season? That is, from October to April. The reason being, during the off-season, the desert heat is simply too much for the asphalt. So, between the months of October and April, bicycles and pedestrians are the only vehicles allowed on the road. Between June and September, the road is open to cars again, but with restrictions.
Another interesting fact about the road is that it was originally built as a military base during World War II. That is, it was built with access roads and underground tunnels, and initially served as an Air Force Base. Eventually, the Air Force turned the area into a large parking lot, and it has continued to be used as such ever since.
