If you’re like me, you wake up one day and realize that all your plans for the day have changed. Well, at least mine did. After driving all night, I found myself at the airport waiting for my flight to Dallas. My original plan was to drive to Missouri and watch my Mom’s step-dad, Jimmy, throw a baseball game with my Uncle Bob. But, that all changed when the airline I was flying on went through a mechanical problem which delayed our departure. After checking my phone for messages, I had a few missed calls from my uncle, asking me to call him back. I called him and found out that the game had been delayed and that I had missed my chance to see my Uncle Bob play baseball. I was beyond crushed. I couldn’t get back to Texas in time for the game, and, to make matters worse, my uncle didn’t have any more tickets for sale. So, that was it. I didn’t get to see my favorite uncle play baseball, and, I certainly didn’t get to meet Jimmy’s new wife. But, somehow, life goes on. I wasn’t completely defeated. While I was at the airport, I got a text message from a friend in Missouri offering me a ride to the game. Thanks to Air Traffic Control and the good folks at the airport, I was able to get my friend’s number from their GPS, call him and tell him I needed a ride, and make the best of the situation.
The same thing could happen to you, especially if you travel a lot for your job. You could get to the airport, realize that your flight has been canceled, and be stuck there for the night. That’s why it’s important to be flexible and think of alternative ways of getting where you need to go. This could be as simple as asking the hotel staff for help, calling your friends and family to see if they can offer you a ride, or buying a ticket on a later flight. There are always options. Being stuck at an airport because your flight has been canceled isn’t anyone’s idea of fun. So, be smart about it, and make the most of the situation. It might not always be easy, but you’ll get through it. You can always find an airport club with all sorts of food and drink available if you’re stuck there for a few hours. It’ll make the time go by faster. You might also want to purchase a newspaper to keep people company while you’re stuck at the airport. It’ll help pass the time.
The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly
I’ll start by saying that despite the fact that Willis Tx isn’t exactly in the middle of nowhere, I really enjoyed my time there. The town seems like a pretty cool place to live. There are a lot of good restaurants and bars. It’s close to Dallas, so if you’re in the area, it’s a pretty sweet place to be. As far as the baseball field itself, the layout is pretty cool. There aren’t any stands in front of it, so you’ll have to sit in the grass. But, aside from that, I thought the stadium itself was pretty cool. It had an old-timey feel to it. I also thought the seating was unique. There aren’t any fixed seats in right field, so you’ll have to find a place to sit. But, other than that, I thought it was a pretty cool place to catch a ballgame.
The bad, there were a few. First off, the food was pretty bad. It was overpriced and really mediocre. If you get there early enough, you might be able to get a table at a restaurant, but, otherwise, you’ll just line up and eat at the ballfield. I wouldn’t recommend it. The other bad part about Willis Tx is that there aren’t any other teams to root for. You’re either with the Yankees or you’re against them. It’s either root for the home team or yell at them if they happen to be playing at another stadium. It’s not really that hard to find a rooting interest somewhere else other than the hometown team. You might want to consider that. Finally, the ugliest part had to do with the people. I’m not sure why, but everyone outside of the town seemed worse than the people in it. That’s probably because there aren’t that many good-looking people in Willis Tx. So, basically, if you’re looking for a place to eat, drink, and socialize, I wouldn’t recommend it. But, if you’re looking for a ballfield, you might find it interesting. Just remember, it’s not that great a place to live if you’re looking for fun.
Missouri: The Road To The Promised Land
After suffering through the emotional devastation of missing out on my favorite baseball game due to a mechanical problem, I was finally able to get some good news. My Uncle Bob had found a way to get me into the game. He had bought two tickets to the game from a friend who worked there, as a favor. So, I was able to make it to the ballgame. What a relief! That was one scary night. We were all pretty shook up. But, being able to see the game was an amazing feeling. Even better was meeting my Mom’s side of the family for the first time. It was amazing to see how much everyone loved and supported each other. Meeting family is one of the most important things in life. It really brings a person back to earth. After being in the Air Force, my Uncle Bob, followed by my Dad and older brother, had moved to Missouri. They all ended up living together in one house, which is how I knew them. Even though it was my first time there, I felt right at home. It was like we had all just come back from Afghanistan. Everyone knew what to do and say, and it felt natural. While I was there, I got to meet other members of my family, as well. It was cool to see everyone interact and get along so well. It was a real joy to be there. Sadly, the joy wouldn’t last very long. Before I knew it, it was time for me to go back home. But, before I left, I made sure to introduce myself to everyone. I think it’s important to do that, especially when you meet people you’ll never see again. It’s good to know who you’re dealing with, especially if you’re going to be in their house for a while. In my case, I was renting a room from them, so it wasn’t like I’d be seeing them every day. But, you never know. Maybe I’ll end up living there one day, and, then, it’ll be like I’ve known them my whole life. I wasn’t sure what the future would bring, but I was sure that I’d like to stay in touch.
