What Has Happened To Rye House Speedway? [Fact Checked!]

The racing scene across the pond has changed quite a bit since the 1960s and 1970s. Gone are the days when people went to Epping Forest or Goodwood to watch the pros do their thing. Instead, motorsport fans can follow entire races live on social media, with millions watching races online as they happen. The traditionalists may lament this, but at the same time, it’s probably for the best. It would be great to be able to go to a race, find a good surface, and then head to the pub for lunch. Nowadays, you can’t really do that.

The Revival

It’s been a long time coming, but motorsport has finally made its way back to Rye House Speedway. Last year, the racing community came together to form the Rye House Revival, a group dedicated to bringing the fun of competitive motorsport to the people of London.

The project began with a bang. In June 2018, the first ever Rye House Revival took place, featuring four short races over the course of a single day. Since then, the group has grown to include experienced drivers, organizers, and passionate fans who want to see motor racing return to its traditional roots. The momentum gained from last year’s revival shows no signs of slowing down, and the upcoming season looks set to continue where it left off.

The Future Is Bright

There is good news for motorsport fans in the U.K., as well. Thanks to the tireless work of the Rye House Revival, as well as similar groups such as the Red Rum Revival and the London Classic Car Club, the future of motor racing in London looks incredibly bright. As well as hosting regular events, the established leagues and clubs in London are helping to provide the funding, support, and infrastructure necessary to grow and prosper the sport once more.

The future of motor racing in the U.K. looks incredibly positive, and with the right management and a bit of luck, it just might make its way back to Epping Forest or Goodwood soon.

If you’re a fan of motor racing, there are plenty of ways you can get behind the wheel. Whether you desire to drive an actual racing car or just want to take a spin in a go-kart, there’s something here to suit your tastes. Even if you don’t particularly want to participate, you can always enjoy the spectacle from the sidelines. It’s never been more accessible than it is now to get involved in motorsport and experience what the pros go through on a daily basis. If you’re looking for a new hobby, why not give it a go? You might just enjoy it.
