What Is A Super Speedway? [Solved!]

Imagine the sound of engines roaring as cars zoom past at insane speeds. Now add the wind blowing through your hair as you watch the racing ensue. You might just have the makings of a perfect day filled with adrenaline, excitement, and possibly even some heart-pounding moments.

If you live in the United States, you can find a motorsport that fits the bill. There’s NASCAR, of course, but there are also many others, such as the World Cup of Motorsports and the Super Bowl of Racing. These are some of the biggest events in their respective sports, and they attract large audiences worldwide. If you’re looking to experience motorsport events in person, you can find plenty to choose from.

What if you don’t live in the States? Wherever you are in the world, you’ll find racing fans who anxiously await the start of the next event. Internet memes and nostalgia may have you believing that motorsport only happens in one place, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. There are so many different racing series around the world, which means there’s something for everyone. You just have to know where to look.

The Different Types Of Super Speedway

To start things off, let’s dispel the myth that there is only one kind of super speedway. This might be true if we limit ourselves to super-fast oval tracks, but there are so many different types of racing series out there. Some of the most popular ones include:

Formula One

Formula One is, in fact, the pinnacle of motorsport. It’s considered the Super Bowl of Racing. If you’re a fan of fast cars and beautiful women, you’ll have your pick of different Formula One events from which to choose. The pinnacle of the racing season is the Grand Prix in Monza, which is held every year in Italy. This is one of the most famous and prestigious events on the Formula One calendar. Every race has crowd-drawing moments, and several have become tradition, such as the Belgian Grand Prix. This year, the Belgian Grand Prix will be held on August 27th.

The 24 Hours Of Daytona And The 12 Hours Of Sebring

It’s been a while since we had a good old-fashioned American car race. The 12 Hours Of Sebring and the 24 Hours Of Daytona are two of the biggest, if not the biggest, car races in the world. They’re held annually in the States, and while some people may consider them to be the same race, they’re actually two very different events. The 12 Hours Of Sebring is a single-elimination sprint held at night, for example, while the 24 Hours Of Daytona is an endurance race that can last for hours, if not days. The 24 Hours Of Daytona is also often referred to as the World Championship Of Racing. If you happen to be in the States during those times, be sure to check them out.

The Indianapolis 500

The Indianapolis 500 is one of the most popular American car races. In fact, it’s the oldest continuously running motorsport event in the States. The race begins at the beginning of May and ends at the end of July, with some exception during the summer. While the track itself is just a mile and a half long, the entire month of May is full of different events and activities associated with the 500 Miles Of Sadness. That’s what the locals call the Indianapolis 500. It’s been an Indy fixture for over a century, and it continues to be a popular event with fans and participants alike. The only thing that has changed over the years is the type of cars that are involved in the race. Back in the day, it was mainly horse and buggies, then came the roaring 20s, when Indy adopted its famous open-cockpit design, which continued until the 1950s. Since then, things have slowed down a bit, but the Indy 500 still brings in the crowds.

The 24 Heures Of Le Mans

The 24 Heures Of Le Mans is the oldest continuous motorsport event in the world. It began in 1913, and since then, it’s been held every year in France. The 24 Heures Of Le Mans is actually two races that occur on different circuits, with about eight hours separating them. The shorter of the two is the famed Le Mans Classic, which features numerous cars and motorcycles battling it out on a closed track. About an hour and a half later, the more glamorous Le Mans Grand Prix features even more cars and motorcycles on open roads and through the city streets of Le Mans. While most people may consider the 24 Heures Of Le Mans to be the pinnacle of motorsport, it was originally designed as a competition between gentleman drivers. These days, it’s still a bit of a social event and an excuse for fans to party in the country outside of Paris.

Sprint And Endurance Races Around The World

There are tons of different kinds of races around the world, and in many cases, they’re more than just races. Take the Isle Of Man Tourist Trophy, for example. It’s considered the unofficial World Championship Of Mountain Climbing. The island’s geography actually forces the racing cars to tackle some of the world’s most stunning terrain. Some consider this to be the ultimate test of speed and skill. While there are no female athletes competing in the race, it’s still considered one of the greatest sporting events of the year. Most of the competitors are professional riders, who train year-round for this event. It’s been held annually since 1907, and the organizers actually don’t consider it to be racing at all. They more than welcome everyone to come witness the extreme sports.

Another example is the Australian Interdominion Tourist Trophy, which is held every other year in a different state. It began in a pastoral setting in 1903, and over the years, the races have taken place in different locations, including the Blue Mountains and the Outback. While the vehicles aren’t as technologically advanced as those in other sports, they still have to navigate tricky terrain and winches to pull off incredible ascents. These days, the Australian IDTO trophy is more of a showcase for the country’s stunning landscape. The organizers actually don’t consider it to be racing at all but instead a way for the public to get out and experience something new. In other cases, the races are only held for the entertainment of the people and to raise money for charity.

It would be wrong to leave you with the impression that there’s only one type of super speedway. The truth is, there are many different kinds of racing series out there, and while some of them may only last for a few laps, some others can go the whole 12 or 24 hours. For that reason, be sure to check out as many different types of races as you can. You may just find that something suits your taste.
