The speedway is the oval-shaped track that the NASCAR series races on. The track is located just outside of Charlotte, North Carolina. The speedway is one of the most popular race tracks in the nation, as people from all over the world watch NASCAR on TV. Most of the popular speedways are in the South, so this is a great opportunity for fans to see their favorite drivers in action. The speedway is open from early April through October, depending on the weather. It is best to check the status of the speedway before planning a trip there, as it can close up due to inclement weather or snowstorms.
Early Bird Specials
One of the best things about visiting the speedway when it is not yet open is that you can get great tickets at a reduced price. If you visit the speedway website before the general public, you will see that there are special offers for early bird and student tickets. These offers range from discounted single-day tickets to free admission for students with a valid ID. You can also find other promotions and specials, which vary by day and time, on the website.
Admission to the speedway is quite simple. You will need to buy a ticket from an entrance booth, which is on the corner of the track. Before entering, you will need to show your ticket at the entrance booth, where a security guard will check your bag for weapons. After you buy your ticket, you will notice a big screen above the entrance booth, which displays all the current specials and offers. There is also a small sign there, with a map of the inside of the speedway and important information.
Getting To The Track
Getting to the track is quite simple as well. Take I-485 north to Exit 29 (Nashville Street). Turn right on Nashville Street and follow it to the end. Turn left on Cleveland Street and cross over I-77/I-485. At this point, you will be facing a T-intersection, with Cleveland Street to your right and Nashville Street to your left. Turn left on Cleveland Street and follow it to the end. As you reach the end of the street and turn left onto Spence Street, you will see the Charlotte Motor Speedway straight ahead of you. It will be on your left, with the famous “cheerleaders” in their neon-colored outfits waving at you from the outside.
The Track Layout
The track layout of the speedway is a traditional oval with the seating area in the middle and the stands on the outside. There is also a small ticket booth and a couple of food stands on the inside of the track. The track measures a total of 2.9 miles around, with about 0.6 miles being inside the seating area and the rest being on the perimeter. The track is flat, so there are no obstacles for the drivers to hit or run into.
The grandstands at the speedway are another great area to catch a NASCAR race. The most historic grandstand of the speedway is the First Row Grandstand, which was originally built in 1950. It seats up to 20,000 people on a normal Saturday night and up to 28,000 during a race. The track is pretty large compared to other speedways, so the seats face in the right direction. There are a total of 12 grandstands at the speedway, located around the track in groups of two and three. The last row of these grandstands is known as the “Budweiser Boxes” because of an expensive-looking display of Budweiser Beer that used to be there. The track also used to be lit up at night, but this has been discontinued.
On the outside of the grandstands, you will find ticket booths, which are where you buy your tickets and the big screen TVs displaying the action inside the track. There are also several restaurants and bars there, as well as a bookstore.
The Finish Line
The finish line at the speedway is in the middle of the backstretch, near the location of the food stands. The main reason people visit the speedway is to watch the NASCAR drivers cross the line to end the race. It is one of the most exciting moments of the race for the fans, as they cheer on their favorite driver. The entire backstretch is lined with huge metal barriers, which keep the cars in their place while the checkered flag is waved.
After the race, the winning drivers come to the finish line, where they are greeted by fans and interviewed by journalists. At night, the entire backstretch is illuminated by floodlights, making it ideal for photos.
What To Watch For
There are a number of things you should look out for while at the speedway. First, try to get a good seat in the middle of the track, as this will give you a better view of the action. After the race, you can find the driver interviews and post-race festivities, which are open to the public. These are great places to be entertained at, as you will have the opportunity to meet the winning drivers and sign autographs. During the offseason, there are several events that you can attend. For instance, the NASCAR Hall of Fame ceremonies in October are always a great event. The NASCAR Hall of Fame induction ceremony is a celebration of the history of NASCAR and the contributors to its growth. Some of the biggest names in NASCAR history will be honored during this event. The Hall of Fame also has a great museum, with interactive displays that bring the history of NASCAR to life. While you are there, be sure to check out the NASCAR Hall of Fame Racing collection, which is a room filled with all the NASCAR racing equipment and clothing worn by the winning drivers. These are some great attractions that you can visit while in Charlotte.
