Some people are very familiar with the 7-Eleven brand, while others may think it’s just a fancy coffee shop. Regardless of how well you may know them, it’s always exciting to learn about new products and new developments at the popular convenience store.
The brand was established in Houston, Texas in 1939, and named after the founders’ children (Estelle, Stanley, and Eugene). Their specialty was selling small products such as snacks and sandwiches, though over their long history the chain has evolved to include numerous food options and even some fresh fruit!
The brand’s first convenience store was opened in Houston’s River Oaks district in January 1940. The following year, the chain expanded to Louisiana, and two years later, it opened its first store in Florida. Today, 7-Eleven is present in all 50 states and has more than 5,000 locations worldwide. The United States military also uses the 7-Eleven brand, so if you happen to be serving your country, you know where to look for a caffeine fix!
Expanding To More Than Convenience
In recent years, the popular 7-Eleven brand has expanded well beyond coffee and snacks. In fact, in 2015 alone, the company made more than $2.7 billion in retail sales from hot dogs to smoothies.
If you’re looking for a coffee shop but instead find yourself in front of a hot dog stand, you might be in the wrong place. At least, that’s what I tell myself whenever I’m in the presence of a delicious, crispy, all-beef hot dog.
Similarly, 7-Eleven sells more than 300 different drink and snack combinations at each of its locations. While I love my morning coffee, I can never pass up the chance to try a Butterfinger milkshake or a chocolate and caramel ice cream sandwich.
A Family-Friendly Destination
If you’re looking to take the family for a stroll in the country, you’ll want to visit the 7-Eleven store in Kissimmee, Florida. The town is home to two major theme parks (one of which is Disney World) and not much else aside from a few restaurants and some gas stations. For years, the family-friendly destination was known as the Golden Corral, but in 2019 they changed their name to 7-Eleven.
The family-friendly theme extends to the restaurants, whereby you can order items such as a hamburger or a pizza without having to worry about little ones around. This is unlike other family-oriented chains such as Chuck E. Cheese’s, which has a much more adult-themed environment.
New Food And Drink Trend
Even if you aren’t familiar with the convenience store brand, you may know that they’re always on the forefront of food trends. One of the most recent trends to hit 7-Eleven’s menu is agua frescas, which are all the rage in Latin America and are easy to make at home.
You simply need to add water to any fruit juice (especially pineapple or mango), and stir well. The result is a refreshing drink that’s packed with vitamins.
New Products For Old And New Fans
In addition to the expanding food menu, the 7-Eleven brand also adds new products for old and new fans. Old fans may remember the BBQ chicken pizza, which was a regional favorite in the 1970s. These days, you can find BBQ chicken pizza on the menu, but with a few tweaks to the formula. For example, instead of chicken, you will find ground beef or lamb in the base.
Similarly, if you’re a new fan, you may love the convenience of having a 7-Eleven nearby. You’ll find a wide selection of snacks, drinks, and meals, and given the variety there’s bound to be something to please everyone in your family.
