Where Is Bridgeport Speedway? [Solved!]

Often times, when you have a long flight or a boring car ride, you just want to get away for a little bit. You can do this at a nearby amusement park or recreation center. There are so many options, but if you’re looking for something more unique, you might want to consider Bridgeport Speedway. Located in Bridgeport, Connecticut, this famous oval has been around since 1923 and has definitely stood the test of time. The granddaddy of American speedway, the property is still home to a weekly NASCAR race. If you’re a fan of the sport, then this is a must-see attraction. Let’s take a look:

An Early Start

Getting a jump on the morning crowd is always a good idea. Those who arrive early can use the paddock area to set up camp and get some food or drink into the party. The best time to visit is between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. Make sure to get a good seven hours of sleep the night before to be fresh for the big day. The earlier you arrive, the less crowded the park will be. It’s always preferable to get some food and drink before heading into the grandstand. This will help you avoid any awkward situations at the ticket counter. Remember: The earlier the better when it comes to enjoying yourself at a sporting event. You can also use the time to walk around the track and get a feel for the speedway. The walk will help you get in some fresh air and exercise too. It’s a win-win!

The Grandstand

The grandstand is where you’ll find the majority of the spectators. This is where you’ll get your money’s worth. You’re paying for the seats here, so get your money’s worth. The good thing about the grandstand is that it’s located near the paddock area. This means that there will be plenty of snacks and drinks available for those in the crowd. It also means that there will be plenty of room to move around too. The bad thing about the grandstand is that it’s not as well-ventilated as the paddock area. This can make the temperature quite high. Fortunately, there are no bad vibes at a NASCAR race. It’s a fun family outing and many spectators come back year after year. The fans come in all shapes and sizes which makes this grandstand truly representative of America.

The Shaded / Party / Paddock Areas

These are the three primary areas of interest at a Bridgeport Speedway. If you love being in the shade, then the shaded area is for you. The party area is where you’ll find the music and the dancing. The last area is for the food and drink. This is where you can find portable toilets too. If you visit during the off-season, then these areas will be empty. You won’t find many people here. It’s a beautiful location though, so you might want to consider coming back during the offseason just to take a walk and catch some shade.

The Paddock / Practice / Warm-Up Track

The practice track is where the drivers and mechanics go through their paces. This is where you can find some of the fastest cars in the world. They’re getting ready for the big race. This is also where most of the equipment is. You’ll see people working on the cars here, so be careful not to trip over any cords. It would be best to go during the offseason just to avoid any hassles. There will be people here all throughout the year too, but it’s mostly empty in the offseason.

The Pit Area

This is where the crew members congregate. They’re a close-knit group and they love to hang out here. It’s a great place to decompress and relax after a hard day of working. The crew members will be wearing team color shirts so you can easily identify them. This is also where the media members and VIPs get their faces painted for the big weekend. If you want to have a good time and meet some nice people, then the pit area is where you want to be. This is also the place to get a good photo-op. Make sure you don’t get in the way of the crew members though. They’re busy working so don’t get in the way of their work space. You can also bring your own camera and get some pretty sweet shots.

NASCAR Rides

There are four different NASCAR rides here at Bridgeport Speedway. Each of them is a must-see for any serious NASCAR fan. The first is the Wall of Fame which honors the greatest drivers of all time. It’s a 12-by-12-foot walkway that stretches across the whole backstretch. The next one is the Bumper to Bumper, a track tour that takes you behind the scenes. The third is the Racing Dreams ride which gives you a 360-degree view of a racetrack and its surroundings. The last one is the Skytower. It’s an observation deck located atop a 60-foot tower. It provides a birds-eye view of the entire property. You’re paying for these tickets, so make sure you use them. There’s nothing worse than going to a place that you aren’t allowed to leave…especially when you paid for the privilege. This is where all the magic happens though. Be ready to sing songs and take selfies with the celebrities. It might be hard to reach the top, but it’s worth it.

The Museum

This is where the memorabilia are. Be careful not to touch anything or sit on anything. The majority of the items here are associated with the legendary Bill France. He was the founder of NASCAR and he spent a lot of time and effort making sure that the sport grew and became popular. There are lots of cool things to see, so make sure you don’t waste any time. The museum is open on weekends only during the offseason. It will be closed on Mondays otherwise.

The Zoi Sadowski-Synnott Memorial Plaza

This is where the grass should be. There are still a lot of open spaces here. This is also where the community comes together. There are picnic tables, baseball diamonds, and even a football field. The grass is always cut here during the offseason too. Even in the offseason, it’s not a totally abandoned space. There are still people around and it’s still used for baseball, football, and soccer. The Zoi Sadowski-Synnott Memorial Plaza is named after the woman who helped bring the world of NASCAR to Bridgeport. She was the daughter of Polish immigrants. Her family was persecuted for being associated with Bill France. This is where her ashes are located. The space is also used for various cultural events, including music concerts and political rallies.

Where To Stay

There is plenty of affordable accommodation in the area. If you are looking for a more luxurious experience though, you might consider one of the nearby five-star hotels. This is where all the magic happens though. You are paying for the privilege of staying here so make sure you use it. During the offseason, it’s mostly empty as there are no residents here. In addition to that though, many hotels have special deals if you’re traveling on a Sunday. This is because there will be no guests at the hotel, so there will be no traffic and no hustle and bustle.

Getting Around

There is a limited number of parking spots available at Bridgeport Speedway. This is because there is no direct access to the place from the highway. The best option is to park near the train station and take the YMCA bus to the venue. This is one of the best ways to get around the city and see all its attractions. The bus stop is right in front of the YMCA. Make sure to get off at the right stop though. Otherwise, you might get stuck in traffic. Otherwise, you might get stuck in traffic. Alternatively, you can take the train from the airport. It’s a straight shot to the center of the city. It will take about 40 minutes to an hour to get to the venue. Biking is another nice way to get around. There are lots of designated bike lanes in the area. This is also a good way to get some exercise too. If you want to walk, then take the Connecticut Freedom Trail. It’s a long and beautiful trail connecting downtown Bridgeport to the Beaver Island Wildlife Refuge. This is a moderate to difficult hike that takes about two to three hours to complete. The trail is handicap accessible and there are plenty of signs along the way. Bring your camera and be sure to snap some awesome pictures. If you do get stuck in traffic, then just follow the advice above and get some exercise. This is a win-win situation.
