Where Is Dover Motor Speedway? [Facts!]

Dover Motor Speedway is one of the world’s great auto racing tracks. It is located in Dover, New Hampshire, which is in the United States. The speedway is owned by the International Speedway Corporation (ISC). The track is mostly known for its annual Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race, which is also the fourth-largest selling series in the entire world. However, the speedway also hosts many other events, including the ARCA Menards Series, NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, making it a hub of racing activity.

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series

The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series is the premier series of NASCAR racing, the pinnacle of American motorsport. Inaugurated in 1949, the series currently features some of the world’s best drivers and most famous races. The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series currently comprises 15 races, the most prestigious of which are the Daytona 500, the Brickyard 400, and the Indy 500. Every year, the NASCAR Cup Series brings in the most viewers, making it the most-watched motorsport series in the world.

The Daytona 500

The Daytona 500 is the Super Bowl of motor racing, attracting hundreds of thousands of fans and a television audience of millions. The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series throws down the gauntlet in February with the first race of the year, the Daytona 500, which is often referred to as the ‘greatest race of all time’. The Daytona 500 is held each year in Daytona Beach, Florida, and is one of the premier events on the NASCAR calendar. The race is named after the famous Daytona International Speedway, which was the venue for the first Daytona 500 back in 1939. On January 9th 2020 the annual Daytona 500 was postponed till February 16th due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Brickyard 400

The Brickyard 400 is the other premier race of the NASCAR season, held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in May. The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series goes head-to-head with the INDYCAR IndyCar Series in a battle of the bulwarks at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Dating back to 1916, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the third-oldest motorsport circuit in the United States and one of the most prestigious venues in all of motorsport. The Brickyard 400 is named after the legendary Indy 500, which was first held in 1914. At a length of 400 miles, the race is certainly one of the longest in the history of the sport. The Indy 500 gets the best of the IndyCar Series and the popularity of the event often leads to an overlap in viewership between the two NASCAR and IndyCar Series races. The 2019 Verizon IndyCar Series Championship was won by Simon Pagenaud of Team Penske.

The Indy 500

The Indy 500 is the other ‘greatest race of all time’, attracting fans from all over the world and a television audience of millions. Like the Daytona 500, the Indy 500 is also held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in May. However, the Indy 500 is considerably longer than the Daytona 500, spanning a whole month instead of just one week. The race is named after the famous 500 Mile Road Race that takes place each year in May, beginning in 1909. The inaugural Indy 500 was thrown down in 1914 and was the brainchild of the great racing driver and team owner Barney Dreyfus. It has since grown to become one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world. In 1921, Dreyfus established the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, building on a tradition that began with auto racing in the city back in 1909. The track’s grandstands hold around 70,000 spectators and are one of the most photographed spots at any sporting venue in the world. The 2019 Indy 500 was won by Fernando Alonso of McLaren.

The others

The others are the annual Daytona International Speedway Bike Night, the New Hampshire Motor Speedway Fall Flat Race, the Canadian Motorcycle Roads, the Fitchburg Railroad Days, and the California Classic. These are the other popular NASCAR races of the year, drawing huge crowds of spectators and enthusiasts. If you are a fan of motor racing, then there’s no denying that you’ll be excited about these five events, as well as many others that take place across the United States each year. The only question is: where do you live? You can’t get events like this close to home, so you’ll have to make the journey (metaphorically speaking, of course)!

Other events at the track

Apart from the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, the rest of the events at Dover Motor Speedway include NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, and the ARCA Menards Series. The Whelen Modified Tour is the top series of NASCAR racing, bringing in the crowds during the last quarter of the year. The ARCA Menards Series is a regional racing series in the United States where drivers use carburetors instead of fuel injection, making it the oldest motorsport series in existence. Finally, the Camping World Truck Series is the step below the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series in terms of prestige, attracting fans from all over the country. The series currently comprises of ten races, held across the United States.

The races at Dover Motor Speedway attract large crowds and are a hub of activity during the offseason, making it one of the top annual sporting events in the area. If you love motorsport, then there’s no denying that you’ll be excited about the start of the NASCAR season, as well as the other events at Dover Motor Speedway.
